"You want to give me a heads up next time?" Matt had brought a chair over by my bedside so he could stay by me. "You could've killed yourself, or seriously hurt yourself."
*I got us in with them, didn't I?* I said to him telepathically. They were definitely watching us and if not watching, listening.
"I could have lost you. You could have died. Why isn't that hitting you yet?"
"Maybe it hit me a long time ago."
"Reagan." His eyes filled with worry.
"It's not a big deal. I'm okay and we're in."
"They didn't even say yes yet. They could be planning an execution or something."
"They wouldn't waste the time fixing me up if they were. I've got things under control." He still seemed a little worried. "How long was I out?"
"You hurt yourself about twelve hours ago, surgery took about two hours, and you've been sleeping up until now."
"Did they treat you okay? What'd you do in all that time?"
"I mostly just sat in here with you when I could or waited out there. They questioned me a bit."
"What'd they ask?"
"Where we were from, how the accident happened, our relation, and how we got in."
"What'd you say?"
"I said we were from the states, that you tripped on your pocket knife, that we're friends, and that some door was open and we just walked in. They don't believe that you tripped so I just played along and said I didn't know how it happened."
I was about to say something back when the door slid open. A group of five people came in. Three men, two women. They all looked pretty young. In the group I noticed Dr. Maxim. A guy that must've been in his early twenties stepped up. "Mr. Reese, Ms. Price. We are part of the board here, and have decided to hear your proposal. I'm Rider Stone. This is Jacob Watson, Dr. Alexander Maxim, Elise Braxton, and Emelia Ford." He pointed at the line of people from left to right.
I tried propping myself up so that I wasn't laying down but struggled a bit. Matt tried to help me but I swatted him off, insisting I could do it by myself. I finally got myself up and said, "I'm going to be forward and blunt. We want in."
"Why should we allow you 'in'? With all due respect, we don't know who you are. Its a lot of work. Dangerous, life consuming work. Can we even trust you?"
"You'd be surprised of my capabilities. Duncan and I are very advanced both physically and intellectually."
"A place like this has to have some way to test that. Don't choose now, see the results and I'm sure your choice will be made." Matt chimed in sounding confident. It was almost like he was challenging them.
The group turned around to discus their decision. When they finished, they all nodded in agreement and turned around. Rider spoke up again, "Dr. Maxim says that you should be good to go in two days. We'll begin testing you today and leave the physical for last. You have no idea what you're in for."
"No. I know what I'm in for. You're the one that has no idea." And with that they walked out. "What did I I tell you." I turned to Matt.
"It's almost annoying how good you are." He laughed.
Dr. Maxim came in with a wheel chair and said, "Are you sure this is what you want?"
"Yes. You lied you know."
