After the tour I went straight to the assembly. Despite the fact that I didn’t even have class, I was still one of the last ones to arrive. When I walked in the auditorium I was a little nervous. It felt weird walking into a huge room full of people I didn’t know. And this was only the freshman class. I looked around and spotted Dotty waving her arms at me to come by her. Parker was two rows behind us and the rest of the faces were unknown to me. “Hey, are you excited?”
“Yes, actually.”
“Good, because I’m scared.”
“So, Parker Damon huh.”
“Okay, we can just ignore the fact that I’m scared about squads. And be quiet, he’s right behind us.” Okay, so I exaggerate a bit.
“Just be careful with him. Remember girl after girl. Other than that go for it! Be the girl that changes him.” She found herself funny and if we were talking about anyone but me, so would I.
“Calm down. I got here last night remember.”
“Fine, fine, but if anything happens, you have to let me know.”
“I promise.” Five minutes later a middle aged man appeared on the stage.
“Hello freshman class. I bet you’re all excited to receive your squads. I ask that you all go to find your squads, after your name is called.”
“What does he mean find?” I asked Dotty.
“Squads are all hidden. They all have a different location, just in case someone decides to turn against us and go with the bad guys. So if someone was bad and needed to get information from another squad, it wouldn’t be easy to find.”
“Great, I need to add ‘find my squad’ to my to-do list.” Dotty was called before me, her squad was 216. I had to wait twenty more minutes until my name was called. This was the downside of being in a huge school.
“Reagan Marie Dalton. Squad 216.” His voice was monotone but I couldn’t be any happier. That was until I heard “Parker Damon. Squad 216.” No. This could not be happening. Only I have this sort of bad luck.
“Want to look together?” He snuck up on me so quickly, I almost attacked.
“Um, huh?”
“Want to look together?” He repeated. “For our squad.”
“I guess, I mean you do know the school better than I do.”
“Well, where do you think we should start first?”
“Well, I guess lets search campus first.”
“Bet your looking forward to having me around all the time, huh?”
“Oh but it’s just the opposite.” At this point we were in the basement of the science department. We just reached a metal door which to me signified “dead end.”
“Let’s go through here.”
“Um, are you sure?”
