“Guys wake up!” I ran up to my room to let everyone know that we were about to go on an emergency mission.
“Reagan, it has to be like 6am.” Derek said in a very sleepy voice.
“It is. Emergency mission! We have to go. Now!”
Suddenly everyone woke up, even Dotty who a second ago had her eyes tightly shut, was now wide awake. “What happened?” She said.
“Henderson said some people against the AOSS teamed up with the Malums and they have the demon ring. I have no idea what that is but it sounds bad, let’s go, now!” I had them at demon ring. I think that even people, who don’t know about the AOSS and powers, would come along had they heard the words “demon ring”. We all ran downstairs to get orders from Henderson and get on with this mission.
“Guys we have to go, apparently SAA’s have the demon ring and they’re going to do the ritual.” I was surprised at how good of a leader he could be in times of crisis.
“Wait. SAA’s? Reagan you didn’t mention SAA’s.” Olivia’s eyes opened wide to signal that she was surprised I didn’t mention it.
“I don’t even know what that is. Why? They can’t be worse than the Malums right?” I really needed to learn more about our enemies.
“Um Reagan, remember how easy it was to send away the Malums when we were on the first mission. Well the selective agents association is like the AOSS but evil. And by like the AOSS I mean they also have powers, so they’re not going to be quick to get rid of.” Dotty added in.
“That’s why we need to go right now guys, except there is one problem.” Henderson looked as if he was thinking about possible plans.
“Only one problem? I would’ve thought that a group of people with powers teaming up with the Malums and getting some demon ring, which sounds horrible on its own, would be the problem.” I couldn’t believe this was going to be a part of my normal life.
“We don’t know where they are. They got the ring and are looking for a place to do the ritual, and we were chosen because we are already in New York on mission. Plus we have someone who knows New York like the back of her hand.” Henderson said pointing to me.
“Okay…what type of place is this ritual done in?”
“Woodsy, abandoned, foresty places. Think old witch rituals. And hurry please.”
“Okay, well considering New York City is inhabited by thousands of people, they couldn’t do it just anywhere. It would have to be somewhere no one would go. No where public.” I stopped for a second to think and then it came to me. “Oh my god, I know where they could be. There’s this old cemetery on the edge of the city. Part of the cemetery’s land is a forest type place. A couple years ago some teenagers were hanging around there, one of them dropped a cigarette or something and the place went up in flames. No one goes there, because the trees are literally charcoal burnt and there’s still caution tape everywhere.”
“Honestly, at this point it can’t hurt to try.” He replied. “Let’s go.”
I transported us to the cemetery and for once we didn’t fall. “This is a pretty big forest so we are definitely going to have to look around.” I led the way and even though we were in a hurry we had to stay quiet. If we did find these people and they heard us, no doubt they’d run away. After a while of searching around, I heard people talking. I quickly went back to where I had left the rest of the team. “Guys quick, I think I found them!” I led them back to where I had been and hid us behind two huge trees.
“It’s definitely them, I can feel their powers.” Henderson said, as he began to move forward. He was ready to attack.
“No!” I quietly hissed at him and the others who almost followed. “Look around there’s no demon ring in sight.”
“So you think these are the wrong people?” Olivia whispered back.
“No, I feel their power too, and it doesn’t look like they’re camping out here for fun. Look around, I don’t see any demon rings or rituals going on yet. It looks like they’re planning. If we attack now, they’ll take the demon ring with them and run. I say we wait. We wait till they pull it out and then we get it. Attack only if they fight back.”
“But we can’t let them do the ritual.” Derek added in.
“Exactly, we can’t let them do the ritual. As in finish. We can easily get it right before it starts or even ends if we need to. Would you rather them run away with it and do it somewhere else?” I replied.
“Okay, so then what’s the plan?” Dotty asked. She was sold.
“Attack when they pull it out. I say we all go towards whoever is holding it. If someone tries to attack, get them back and then get your focus back on the ring. Once one of us has it, I think Derek should surround us with a dome of fire, so that it’ll hold them up while I wipe their minds and teleport us to headquarters.”
“That’s actually a really good plan.” Henderson said.
So we watched the group of 5 for fifteen long minutes. Around the tenth minute I started to doubt whether these were the people we were looking for, but four minutes and seconds later one of them pulled out a black glowing ring. It was just a band but you could see little indented inscriptions around it. As they started to perform the ritual the inscriptions around the band began to turn a dark red. “What is that?” I asked, slightly grossed out as the red filled up the indentations.
“Demon blood. Ready?” Henderson said.
“Let’s go.”
