The movie had just ended and I looked down at my phone to check the time. It was 8:30. Only the girls and I were left we had began to walk to the dance. We were walking all the way to the south side of campus where the ballroom was. As we approached the entrance I saw seven guys standing on the steps with white roses. I was too far away to tell who they. As we got closer I noticed that the seven guys were the seven guys of 216. Each of them had one white rose in their hands. Each of them wore black button up shirts, and I had to admit they all looked really good. Derek looked so different, not only because of the clothes, but I wasn’t used to his new look. “Wow.” Was all that I could say as I looked behind me to see if they were expecting dates.

Henderson, Parker, and Ace all stepped ahead of the other four boys. I hadn’t seen Parker in a while. He showed up to class, but I never made it a priority to talk to him either. “We know you’ve been having a bad couple of days,” Henderson began.

“So we, us and Dotty, thought we could cheer you up with dates to the dance.” Parker interrupted. Then all seven of the guys, one by one, handed me the flowers that became a bouquet in my hands.

“You guys are so sweet!” We began to walk in to the ballroom. It was huge. There were sleek white tables set up on the sides, and a gigantic dark purple dance floor set up in the middle. The walls were covered in white fabric and looked like they were lit up by lights from behind. The lights behind the walls were pink, purple, blue, and just a normal white light. It made the whole room glow. Over on the right side of the room was a table filled with snacks and refreshments.  People already filled the room and were dancing to the music the DJ was playing. “This is so much better than the old vintage stuff they usually have set up here. Who wants to dance?”Derek was the first to sit down and opt out, so I volunteered him to dance with me.

“I can’t really dance.” He said, sounding embarrassed.

“Just follow the beat of the music!” I said as I smiled at how funny he looked.

“Is this okay?” He was a little out of beat, but definitely not horrible.

“Its fine you’re getting the hang of it. How do you like the new look?”

“It’s actually a lot less maintenance than my old look, so I like it.”

“I bet tomorrow all the girls are going to go head over heels for you.” Miss Independent by Ne-yo was playing now.

“I already like someone, but the attention is always a plus I guess.”

“Who is it? Maybe I can set you guys up?”

He was about to answer me when Henderson cut in. “May I have this dance?”

I glanced up at Derek and he nodded, so I said, “Sure.”

“So do you like the plan, or do you like the plan?”

“Hah. Neither. I love the plan.”

“Well I try. You’ve been through a lot in the past couple of days.”

“Oh trust me, I know. Hey can you give me a second.” I needed to go to the bathroom and check if I looked okay. Vain, I know, but dancing the night away wasn’t all glamour. I turned into a random hallway in an attempt to look for the bathroom. But before I was out of view of the people on the dance floor, I sensed a force slightly pushing me forward. I turned around and saw parker standing on the opposite end of the hallway. “Whoa, you could’ve just called my name you know.”

“Oh, but that’s not as fun.”

I walked over to him by the end of the hallway, and sat down next to him. “What’s up with you? You’ve I don’t really see you anymore.”

“Maybe that’s because you spend all your time with Henderson.”

“Okay, that is so not true, and you know it. Even if I was, what would be the big deal?” I began to notice how great he looked tonight. His eyes were such a clear blue that they almost pierced my eyes with how bright they were. Why did he have to be so perfect looking?

“Because then he’d ask you out.”

“And? Plus, remember I’m not looking for a relationship. I’m here for one thing.”

“Well if you had a boyfriend, then I wouldn’t be able to kiss you.”

“Kiss me?” And then he leaned in and did so. My arms went around his neck and I kissed him back. It probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but I did it. It was like the perfect, adrenaline rushing kiss. He was the bad boy, and I was here to avenge my mom. The kiss was so intense that I didn’t notice three random guys staring at us.

They slowly clapped and said, “Alright man, I guess I owe you twenty bucks.”

I opened my eyes and pushed him off of me. “God damn it, Parker. You’re so low.”

“Oh, come on, you have to admit that was a hell of a kiss. We’re both not into relationships, we’d be perfect.”

“After you kissed me for twenty bucks, there’s no way I’d ever be with you.” I pushed him against the wall and kissed him like I’d never kissed anyone before. It was passionate, the type of kiss that would paralyze you for a minute or two as you caught your breathe.

“Then what was that?” He tried to say that confidently and coolly, but I could tell my kiss fazed him. There was a slight stutter in his voice.

I didn’t back away from his face until I said, “To show you what being a jerk just cost you.”
