The next couple of days passed by in a blur. We rarely got out of bed, and I was fine with that. I was enjoying this moment in time in our little bubble before the real world needed our attention.

Devon's cell buzzed, he opened the text message and the look on his face went to neutral to pissed off in a flash.

"I need to go for a bit, I have to take care of some business," he said as he leaned over and gave me a quick kiss.

"Okay" was all I could say at that moment, I was disappointed, but I knew if his business needed him then he would go.

He got up and was dressed in record time, he looked at me for a moment and his facial expression softened.

"I will be back, stay out of trouble" he said as he kissed me with so much passion that it took my breath away.

"I'll try," I said with a wink. He laughed as he headed out the door. Once I heard the front door shut and his truck start, I laid there in bed, relaxed and happy.

After my shower, I put on a black sundress. Putting my hair up into a messy bun, I decided to make something to eat and go into the greenhouse to see what I wanted to do with it.

Just as I was walking to the greenhouse, I heard a truck pull up to the house. It was all my plants that I ordered along with the paint and supplies that I needed.

Spending the next few hours in the greenhouse, I rearranged some of the plants and potted the new ones for the porch. I was going to keep the plants in here until after I painted the porch.

I was going to have to hire someone to paint my house for me, since it was too big of a job just for me to do. Once everything was done this old house would look inviting again.

Checking my phone I saw that it's been four hours since I've heard from Devon. I hoped everything was going okay and nothing major was happening with his work.

I took a quick shower and decided to put on my sleep shorts and a tank top. The heat wasn't dissipating as the sun was going down and the house was holding the heat.

I made sure while at the hardware store to buy a few fans to place around the house to keep the air moving.

I pulled out the key that my aunt had left me, and decided to find the spot where the box was, that held the two books that she wrote.

After a few minutes of rummaging around I found the secret compartment, moving the piece of wood out of the way I pulled out the box. I sat there on the floor looking at this beautiful hand carved box that had a bunch of symbols on it.

I put the key into the keyhole and unlocked the box. Opening up the lid there sat two leather bound books. I took the one that was labeled Understanding what is hidden, book one.

I shut the box and put it back into its hidden spot for now. Taking the first book I got into bed and opened the book. I noticed there was an inscription on the first page.

"My darling Tori,

While reading this book, you must keep an open mind my dear girl. Do not let all the years of my research go to waste. I love you, Aunt Landy."

I blew out a breath, this means that what she was doing was more than just collecting objects that were haunted, she was actually researching what everything meant.

I closed the book and went to the kitchen to get some iced tea. I had a feeling this was going to be a long night since my aunt knew I had a hard time sleeping with just a horror movie.

Now she wants me to read a book on mythical beings that actually come to find out they are real.

I made sure the front door was locked and everything was good before going back to the bedroom.

I had my cellphone on the nightstand, placing my iced tea on the table I climbed back into bed and opened the book.

Chapter One,

Vampires.

Since the dawn of time man has come to think of vampires as an evil entity that only drinks human blood and has to stay out of the sunlight. That they can transform into bats to escape.

Everything that we have come to know about vampires has been untrue and used as a scare tactic for movies and books.

Vampires can actually walk in sunlight; they can eat food just like we can except most choose not to. They get no nutrients from it, so most times they don't bother.

They do need blood, but most times it is from an animal that has already been butchered. They do not need it to live, but once a month to keep things in check.

As for daylight, it does not bother most, the older the vampire, the more they actually enjoy being out in the daylight. It's the young ones that have to adjust to the U.V. lights that radiate from the sun.

Now as for being born a vampire, that is how most happen. A male vampire can mate with a human woman and their child can be either vampire, human or a mixture of the two which are usually called a dhampir.

A male vampire is the only one that can turn a human into a vampire, they carry a specific kind of venom that only will turn a woman at a certain time.

Women vampires cannot change a human into a vampire, women vampires also do not carry any kind of venom in their system.

Now if a male vampire falls in love with a human woman, it is rare for her to have certain genetics as well as abilities that can handle being with a male vampire.

Once he has professed his love to her, he will live only for her. He will be her protector, her husband, her best friend, and a father to their children.

Being in a union with a male vampire isn't something to take lightly, you have to be ready for a full lifetime commitment.

He will not turn his mate unless she asks. He will only bite her once they have talked about it and it is something she agrees to. I have been told these bites are painless and highly erotic, it heightens sex ten times greater.

I laid the book down and thought about what I had just read. I was in love with a male vampire and now I was a bit nervous as to what this might all mean in the long run.

So many questions were running through my mind right now, and the only way I could get any answers was to talk to Devon about all of this. I wasn't going to break off our relationship, far from that one. But I did want some answers.

Now I know why my aunt wanted me to have an open mind, and to keep these away from everyone. I spent the next few hours reading about werewolves, the fae, which were fairies or nature spirits.

Closing the book I looked at the time, it was already eleven at night. Where did the time go? I thought as I got up and put the book back into its place. I grabbed my cell phone and saw I had one missed text.

Opening the message I saw it was from Devon.

"Hi darling, I had to run into the city to take care of some business that I couldn't do from home. I was going to call but time got away from me, I will be coming home in a bit. Sweet dreams and will see you in the morning."

I smiled at how considerate he was being.

"Hi, it's okay I just finished reading a book that I found that belonged to my aunt, nothing major, but about to get some sleep. Drive safe and will see you tomorrow."

I closed out my phone, putting it on the charger and as soon as my head hit the pillow I felt myself drift off to sleep.
