All three of us were sitting at the kitchen table when the timer went off. I got up and pulled the lasagna out of the oven and placed it onto the heating pad, so the table wouldn't get marked from the heat.

Devon grabbed the plates and silverware; Darious grabbed the pitcher of iced tea and added some lemons onto a small dish. The three of us sat there eating our dinner, out of the corner of my eye, I watched as Devon was eating small amounts of the lasagna.

I remembered what the book said, and I put my fork down.

"Devon, you don't need to eat this if you don't want to," I said with a smile. I didn't want him to think he had to do certain things just for my benefit.

Darious chuckled, and I looked at him with a curious glance.

"Someone's been reading up on vampires," he said and winked.

"What book is this?" Devon asked.

"A book that my aunt had laying around, it said vampires don't need to eat human food since it gave them no nutrients" I said, lightly kicking Darious under the table.

I saw him wince a little bit but played it off as if nothing happened.

"Well, I thought why not eat what my darling cooked," Devon said with a smile. He truly was trying to be nice for my benefit and I found that sweet.

"I appreciate it, but it's okay" I said, as I started to eat again.

After a few minutes, Devon sat back watching Darious and myself eat. It was a bit uncomfortable at first but then I just ignored it and ended up finishing everything on my plate.

"It's nice to see a woman with a healthy appetite," Darious said.

"Good, because I don't shy away from food," I said laughing. That comment got Darious laughing but Devon just sat there watching us. I wish he wouldn't be so uptight, I wanted to get to know Darious since he was good friends with my aunt and went on her adventures. I wanted to hear all about those as well.

After dinner, Darious shooed me out of the kitchen, telling me to go relax on the front porch as he and Devon would clean the kitchen for me. You didn't have to tell me twice.

I grabbed my glass of iced tea and sat on the porch swing, listening to the wildlife, and watching the sun set behind the trees.

It was peaceful for a good five minutes before those two started their bickering.

"What do you mean you're staying in this house until your house is built?" Devon growled.

And here it goes I thought as I heard Devon's voice being raised.

"Tori gave me a list of rules that I have to follow and I agreed to them even before she gave me an answer. What is the issue really about Devon? Are you afraid she will go for me instead of you? Is that it?"

I heard Darious asking Devon these questions, I sat there trying my best to hear what was being said.

I wanted to know the answers to these as well, nowhere in that first book did it say that vampires were possessive. It would have been a nice heads up dear aunt; I thought as I looked up at the stars.

"We both know you're an alpha, with no pack and now you are staying on these lands. Tori is a beautiful, amazing, smart, sexy woman who has abilities that are no match for anyone. Even her aunt knew Tori was special that's why she wanted her to live here with her until her mother got jealous and forbade her from ever contacting Tori or else she would make sure Tori forgot all about her.

So yes I'm worried that Tori will fall for you. She can have a normal life with you, grow old with you and have kids" Devon yelled.

I sat there stunned, I never knew what the actual argument was about all those years ago.
