"We love you Adlai and we would love you just as much if you were not dying. You are our daughter in every sense of the world and if you weren't dying you would take over this pack when you came of age. Do you understand?"
Her chin wobbles and she throws her arms around Carter's shoulders
"Yes daddy"
She tells him, he pulls me into a hug and kisses my head then he pulls back and wags his fingers at some kids close by. They lived in the houses closest to ours. They nervously walk towards us as Carter lifts Adlai of the table.
"Yes alpha?"
The little boy infront asks him nervously, Carter gives him a warm smile.
"I have a very important mission for you all. Adlai needs some friends, ones that won't bully her. Will you and your friends have her play with you and not let anyone bully her"
They all stand up straighter looking at Adlai with a grin on his face
"Yes alpha, it would be my pleasure"
The wee boy says proudly
"Good, Adlai why don't you go join them, Gerald will be with you and you can come back whenever you want"
"Yes daddy"
she wipes her face and climbs down and goes to the little boys and his friends. I grin at Carter wiping a tear from my own cheek as dads and mum come over smiling at us
"That was quick thinking son, well done"
He frowns shaking his head
"I didn't make it up, I have the papers drawn up all they need is a signature, I wasn't going to risk anyone else claiming her she's ours"
I snort as my parents' jaws drop. It's strange to see Carter so passionate about anyone that isn't me.
"You really have them?"
I ask amused
"Yes I really do, I didn't think you would mind"
He tells me, I shake my head and kiss him
"Mind? No I don't mind, in fact I think it's amazing"
He kisses me again, softer as he holds my chin, he moans as our parents clear their throats. I roll my eyes and pull away.
Carter smirks at me, taking a seat and pulling me onto his knee.
"So she's really ours? Really really?"
Scott asks excitedly, Carter nods his head
"Yes, she is really ours"
He answers, pouring some drinks for us, he hands me a glass and pushes the others over to my parents and Ella

We replied excitedly. My heart swells as I watch her dance and laugh with the other kids just the way she should be. I suddenly felt so grown up, we were married, mated and officially alpha and Luna to our pack. We were responsible for each and everyone of them and that in itself was a little scary and overwhelming but also exciting and thrilling at the same time.

2 months later..
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to princess Adlai, happy birthday to you"
We sing proudly as Adlai blows out the candles on top of the stack of chocolates chip pancakes. Most kids would ask for a big cake full of sugar and icing but all Adlai wanted was breakfast pancakes and chocolate brownies for dessert tonight.
The last 2 months had been a whirlwind of crazy. 2 months of becoming parents, 2 months of loving someone more than life itself, 2 months of constant laughter and attitude, 2 months of Adlai having tea parties and turning the men in her life into little girls who negotiate their way into getting what they want. It had been 2 months of little hugs and big love. It had been honestly the best 2 months of my life and I would cherish these memories forever. Each one was locked up in my brain so I could pull them out later when I needed them most.
Today Adlai was turning 7, because we knew it was her last birthday, we went all out. We had bouncy houses set up on the training field, we would have a travelling zoo come by and with them a woman that would paint the faces of all the kids.
All in all I was excited, Adlai was excited, Carter wasn't as excited because he hates people but he loved our daughter and he would do anything for her, including putting up with the pack all in one place.
"Can I have my presents now?"
I chuckle and pull the candles from her pancakes
"Eat first then presents after"
She pouts but mum lifts the strawberry sauce and pours it over her pancakes and her pout turns to her licking her lips in excitement, she digs in not saying another word.
We all start eating, each of us excited to spoil our girl rotten. I couldn't wait to see her face when she got our present.
We all ate quickly and mum and dads gave her, her presents first. As usual they had went above and beyond. First she opens the smaller ones pulling out a Cinderella dress.
She squeals in excitement as she pulls it out. She goes to the floor next pulling a blanket of the bigger present. She gasps looking at the white wooden railing with her name on the bottom. It was full of dress up clothes.
"This is the bestest present I have ever got thank you"
She runs into my dad's arms, they scoop her up and blow raspberries on her belly as she squeals in excitement, giggling like crazy.
"Put her down it's my turn"
Ashley snaps, she was more excited than even me. She dotes on her just as much as I do. Dads place her back on her feet as Ashley steers her towards an even bigger present on the floor.
She rips it open and my eyes widen and I groan looking at Carter as his jaw ticks. Inside was a tiny pink petrol dirt bike with a pink helmet hanging from the bars.
"Wow this is so cool!"
"And so dangerous"
Carter snaps glaring at Ashley she smirks shrugging her shoulders
"Can't wrap her up in cotton balls"
"No but I can keep her out of harm's way"
"Please daddy can I keep it? Please"
Adlai pouts at us sadly, Carter groans, dropping his head in the crook of my neck.
"Fine but you need to take it slow"
She jumps up and runs to us hugging us tight. I lift her up and kiss her little cheek.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you"
She chants excitedly.
"Here sweetness this is from me"
Daniel gives her a present wrapped in pretty pink paper. She opens it on the floor and she squeals in excitement at the pink kids hoverboard.
