"No, not that I've seen anyway"
I rub my hands down my face, we were all on edge and emotional
"If he does I'll kill him I swear, I only tolerate him because he makes her happy but if he makes her sad I won't"
I hold my hands out in front of him to signal for him to stay calm.
"You know he would never purposely hurt her, but Bella on the other hand isn't trying to hide it"
His eyes snap to mine
"She's pushing it?"
"She seems to be yeah"
He rubs his temples annoyed
"Let me finish this and I'll come deal with that then"
I smile and open the door, Adlai is standing by the fireplace looking outside. I go to her and look too, Bella is laughing loudly at Gerald, Gerald chuckles but it's obvious he doesn't think it's that funny.
"Go out there mummy"
She pushes me, I chuckle leaning down to kiss her temple and I walk out casually, Gerald smiles at me as I pull out a smoke. Bella looks a little annoyed that I interrupted them.
"What's got you guys laughing so hard?"
I say sweetly taking a seat beside Gerald, he shrugs
"Honestly I'm not really sure"
The poor boy was oblivious, I smile at her
"So what are your plans now? Are you going to college?"
She shakes her head
"No, I'll still be running the businesses with our parents, gradually taking it over"
"What about your mate? What will happen when you find him or her?"
I ask casually, she chuckles looking to Gerald then back at me shrugging
"I'm not so sure, I might just choose a chosen mate"
Geralds face falls
"Why would you do that, mates are the most wonderful blessings you could ever ask for"
He looks disgusted at the thought, she falters slightly
"I wouldn't say that, especially if your waiting around for someone"
I growl at her
"I waited and it was the best damn thing I ever did"
She shakes her head
"No I don't mean that, you were both the same age. If your out living your life and waiting around for a mate to come of age I just don't see the point in that"
Gerald zeros his eyes in at her, that statement clearly hit a nerve
"Baylee and caden would disagree and so would I, I might not see Adlai as a partner right now but she is my little sister and I'd wait 100 years for her if I had to because even now she's made my life better, my life was miserable and now I've got purpose and love"
If Bella weren't here I'd kiss the damn boy I'm so proud of him, I smile at him and he nods taking a drag of his smoke, I look back to Bella who has her face screwed up
"Even so If I had to wait I'd be having some serious fun as I waited"
"And that would not only be seriously disrespectful and appalling but it would also be disloyal and honestly probably a little impossible. I can't even imagine how I'd feel if my mate didn't wait for me, and honestly I can't imagine ever wanting to even touch another, the thought makes my skin crawl"
He shivers slightly
"I agree, plus if you find your mate and you have shared even just a kiss with another it feels like you cheated and vice versa"
She shakes her head
"I think that's a little extreme but whatever, I'm going to the shop to grab a few things I'll be back later"
She dumps her smoke and gets up to leave, Gerald does the same thing but I catch the back of his shirt and pull him back down, I wait until I hear the door close and I turn to him
"You realise what's happening there don't you?"
He frowns shaking his head
"No, what?"
"She likes you, she is making it pretty obvious too, Adlai was crying about it so please keep your distance"
"What? When?"
"When you came out to smoke, we are going to watch a movie in the cinema room but I want you to take her down while I make popcorn and tell her your not interested in her"
He looks completely heartbroken
"I didn't even realise, you know that don't you?"
"Yes I know, just make sure Adlai knows"
He jumps up and runs inside looking for her, I do the same but I go to the kitchen as he kneels in front of her
"Adlai I promise that you are the only girl in my life, nobody comes close to how much I love you. I'd wait for forever for you"
She studies him a little
"So you don't like Bella?"
"Not even a little"
"I thought she was my friend but now I see she just wanted you"
She says sadly, Gerald frowns looking at me then back at her. He gets up sitting beside her and he yanks her onto his knee.
"I don't think that's true"
"It is true, if she was my friend she wouldn't try to convince you to have fun or to choose another mate"
He growls pulling her tight to his chest
"I would never ever do that, from now on it's just you and me, ok kid?"
She sniffles some more, her little eyes were glassy as she looks up at him
"Do you promise you won't choose another mate"
He growls shaking his head
"Stop saying that Adlai, it makes me crazy, you are my mate. I already chose you, my wolf chose you. If anything I'm worried about you growing up and realising your way to good for me and finding a boyfriend"
He scrunches up his nose
"Ewe I don't want a boyfriend"
Gerald puffs out a breath of air shivering
"Well you might change your mind"
"Nope, sluagh wouldn't allow that"
I pull the bag of popcorn open and I pour it into the box
"Ok so how's about we make a deal, your never allowed to kiss a boy EVER and I won't kiss a girl EVER And then when you're old enough we can go on a date"
She sticks her hand out but then pulls it away and points her finger at him
"But you can't let them flirt with you either, sluagh wanted to kill her and I almost let her"
He chuckles
"Deal, and well done sluagh for not killing her, if it was the other way around I don't think I could hold back that much restraint"
I pour some soda into the cinema cups we got for Adlai so she would feel like we were in a real cinema. I grab some chocolate and then I go to the office, closing the door behind me
"Did you hear all that?"
"Yes I did"
He tells me smiling
"Did you hear Bella?"
He nods
