They frown and look at each other as Daniel snorts
"It's true she did say that"
"That is so not fair!"
Deacon pouts annoyed making Adlai giggle
"Fine fine I'll do it properly instead since I tricked you. I bet you the same money that I CAN eat 4 crackers in a minute"
"Your on"
Ailm tells her, Adlai takes a breath, closing her eyes. After a few seconds she looks to dad and nods
"Ready, set, go..."
Adlai lifts the first 2 crackers and breaks them in half and stuffs them into her mouth and she quickly chews and swallows them, then she does the same again, taking her time to break the crackers, as the timer hits 30 seconds she stuffs the last bits into her mouth and chews them quickly before swallowing them and finishing the challenge at 52 seconds. She opens her mouth to show everyone one, I grin at her. She was so brilliantly smart.
Deacon groan and grabs his wallet and he pulls another $40 dollars from his pocket and he adds it to the $80 on the table and he pushes it towards Adlai
"You can take $40 back, that was just a funny trick"
Deacon smiles at her but pushes it in front of her anyway.
"A bets a bet Princess"
He winks at her and she shrugs taking the money.

It had been a week of ups and downs, for the first 3 days we thought she would be fine but the 5 days after that has left her mostly bed ridden, she can't walk far atol.
We are all just trying our best to spend as much time together as possible, movie nights and chocolate brownies for supper, funny bets and dares kept her smiling but her body was not.
She was in constant pain and we couldn't stop it any more. I was trying but I was failing miserably.
I'm pulled from my thoughts as Gerald carries Adlai up the stairs. He had been a god sent, always by her side helping her with anything and everything. She doesn't know he is her mate, we didn't want to upset her with the thought of her leaving him behind.
In his hand he held a bag and he carried her to the couch and placed her down and he pulled a throw over her legs.
"What would you like to drink princess?"
"Gatorade please"
I smirk, she wasn't usually allowed Gatorade because it made her crazy hyper but this last week she has been able to drink as much of it as she wants.
"Mummy can I talk to you please"
I get up and go to her side, she looked like she had 2 black eyes they were so dark and sunk in. Her lips were dry and her breathing was shallow as she talked. I sit beside her and she pulls a little box from the bag.
"I got this made for you mummy"
She tells me, my heart constricts in my chest as I look at the little box. I open it up and tears instantly brim at my eyes. Inside was a white gold heart. The front had a picture of Adlai on it, it was my favourite picture of her, she wore a huge grin on her face with flowers in her hair.
But the picture was engraved into the gold. I push the first heart to the side and the next one had a picture of both of us and Carter engraved in the golden heart. I move it to the side to see the last heart underneath. It read
"To MY mummy,
I leave with you a piece of my heart to keep safely tucked away
in your heart for forever.
I love you so much,
Love from YOUR Adlai
XxxX"
Under it had her thumb print. Tears stream down my face as I look at the most precious present I think I've ever gotten. I couldn't help the sob that escapes my lips as I grab her and hug her so tight.
"I love it, thank you so so much my love."
"Your squeezing too tight mummy"
She gasps and I let her go pulling back
"Shit sorry are you ok?"
"Yes I'm fine. Do you like it?"
She asks me grinning as she runs her finger over the white gold plates.
"Sweetheart I love it more than anything i've ever loved before"
And I did, I would wear it everyday for the rest of my life. I pull it out and put it on around my neck as the door opens and Carter walks in.
"What's wrong? I could feel your upset"
I smile at him as Adlai looks to him
"Can I talk to you daddy?"
I wipe my face of tears and I stand up holding my chain over my heart. I kiss Carter as I go towards the kitchen.
"I'll give you a minute"
He frowns, nodding and he goes to her as I find Gerald in the kitchen.
"I know she had money saved but these must have cost a fortune. I'll send you extra pay this week"
He frowns shaking his head
"Please no, I helped her because I wanted to. It's actually an honour that I was able to help her do this. She's been planning it for a long time"
I wipe more tears and pour myself a coffee
"It's the best gift i've ever received"
I wipe my face and smile at him.

Carter's POV
I could feel Carlys heartbreak through the bond. It was a regular thing this week especially but this time it felt different.
I had spent the week closing down my mind. I haven't looked to the future and I'm trying to keep out of everyone's mind but it's hard to keep a block like that up. Especially when I don't trust the people who I'm not reading. I finish the work and go in search of Carly to check on her and Adlai.
Adlai was our little princess and she could honestly do no wrong in my eyes. My girls meant so much to me and I honestly couldn't bare the thought of losing her. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope and keep going when she's gone. All I know is I need to stop thinking about tomorrow and start enjoying the time I have with her today.
I have been doing the bare minimum work wise so I could have this time with them both. I finish up and head to the house, I can feel Carlys pain. I know she's crying but it's a mixture of happiness and heartbreak.
I walk into the house and I hear my wife sob.
"What's wrong? I could feel your upset"
I ask her, she smiles at me and then looks to Adlai holding something in her hand
"Can I talk to you daddy?"
I look to Adlai and back to Carly and my stomach sinks. Carly smiles walking up to me and kissing me lightly
"I'll give you a minute"
I nod, not sure what else to say and she disappears going to the kitchen. I take a seat beside Adlai and she pulls a little box from a bag and hands it to me.
