    "—fat, uncomfortable, obese, like a pig or a duck that swallowed a Mellon?"
   
    She snaps at me, Carter stood behind her, his eyes widen at her statement as he slowly backs away from her
   
    "I was going to say amazing but I'm guessing that's not how your feeling?"
   
    I answer her, she rolls her eyes and points to her parents who thought the whole thing amusing
   
    "Blame them 2 freaks for making me come, I was quite happy to laze at home in my pyjamas and not get dressed up and walk around all graceful and look like I give shit when I don't"
   
    "Of Course you do, your just uncomfortable"
   
    Fay scolds her, Ella snorts
   
    "Hell no, I don't give 2 flying fucks and I won't pretend I'm happy about it"
   
    Aaron steps in taking her hand and kissing it
   
    "Don't worry so much babe, we can take it slow. We can even dance if you want and I will make sure they make you a mocktail"
   
    Ellas whole demeanour changed, going from defensive and annoyed to calm and placid
   
    "And you will stay with me?"
   
    "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else"
   
    Her eyes start to water, her emotions overwhelming her as she feels far too many for one moment. She hugs Aaron and Arden raises his thumb up and mouths a thank you.
   
    Arden elbows jaxon, a devious smile on his face as carter walks to my side, tense as hell with all the strangers in our house.
   
    "I've definitely got the best son in law"
   
    Dad being a jackass, takes this opportunity to rub Carter up the wrong way. I go to object but before I do he had already said it.
   
    "No I think if anyone has the BEST SON in law it's Carter"
   
    Carter's face goes from placid to lived in 0.001 seconds flat and a slow growl rips through his chest as I glare at dad, Arden frowns looking between them
   
    "What the hell did I miss?"
   
    "Dads being a dick, Gerald is 10 years older than Adlai and Carter finds it uncomfortable"
   
    I say calmly
   
    "She even marked him, you should have seen his face then"
   
    Dad taunts carter, I shake my head as Arden and Aaron's faces drop
   
    "She did what?"
   
    "I marked him because he was mine, I may only be 7 but that gives him 10 years to choose someone else and sluagh didn't like that idea"
   
    Adla tells everyone, crossing her arm across her chest and pouting at Carter, Ella covers her mouth to stop the smile. It was adorable how jealous a little kid can be.
   
    "Princess you know I'd wait a 1000 years for you, you don't need to worry about that"
   
    Gerald tells her
   
    "Yeah he isn't going anywhere even if I wish he was, like maybe his own damn house or even room"
   
    Carter snapped, making me chuckle, he was so tense. I stop the makeup artist and get off my chair and point to it. Carter smiles sitting down and I sit on his knee, he wraps his arms around my waist and rests his head on my shoulder and he sighs happily, finally relaxing.
   
    "Oh my gosh she had a nightmare, I fell asleep. Get over it"
   
    Dads slam their hands over their mouths as Ella's, Aaron's, Ardens and Fay's eyes nearly pop out of their head at his honest disrespect. His grip on me tightens just slightly as he takes a deep breath
   
    "Yeah daddy, I was scared. Don't be mad at him please"
   
    She gives him puppy dog eyes and he snorts
   
    "I understand that sweety but it's not just that, he's also really disrespectful"
   
    "But since he is your understudy should he not be allowed to be blunt in common conversations. If the future alpha can't be honest he wouldn't be a very good alpha"
   
    I nearly collapse on the spot as dads laugh hysterically, Carter's jaw just drops as he looks at the smarty pants. Dad pulls out his wallet and hands her a 10
   
    "That was awesome, you deserve this"
   
    Even the makeup artist is giggling quietly
   
    "Thanks pops, well daddy is that not true?"
   
    "I'm"
   
    He opens and closes his mouth in shock as Gerald watches her proudly
   
    "Honestly I don't know what to say to that"
   
    "Well it's true, you have been calling me out since you were 2 years old"
   
    Dad snaps then he shoved a handful of nuts in his mouth
   
    "That's different— oh I have the answer now"
   
    He tells her putting up his finger, I can't help but laugh some more
   
    "For a start he may be future alpha and on pack business he can call me out, but he needs to do it with respect because I am king also and when it comes to my 7 year old daughter me and your mummy make the decision and your FUTURE mate needs to abide by them and if an accident happens and the rules are broken he should act accordingly and politely"
   
    I tap his hand and nod my head
   
    "Well said babe"
   
    "But"
   
    Adlai sticks her finger up to pause the chatter and Carter mumbles 'fuck me' under his breath and I can practically hear the eye roll that comes with it.
   
    "You always say only family can talk to you like that, well Gerald is family. To sluagh he's more than just family and he is marked by us, that means he has our DNA so he is family so why can't he talk to you like how mummy talks to you"
   
    She finishes
   
    "She's so smart, ain't she amazing"
   
    Gerald asks the family proudly, dads nod in agreement as Arden just watches the entire scene play out
   
    "Well nobody can talk to me like mummy talks to me, not ever. She is the only person who's allowed to be disrespectful"
   
    "But I don't talk to him like that unless he was naughty"
   
    I add making Ella snort
   
    "Am I not allowed to talk to you like that?"
   
    "You can talk to me about anything, but you have got to respect your elders and parents. If we do something stupid you can tell us that but you still need to do it with respect. So mummy can say anything, Adlai, Ashley, nana, grandads and mark can say most things and everyone else says very little and the rest don't talk to me atol"
   
    She screws up her nose and shakes her head
   
    "No wonder they don't, you have too many rules to follow"
   
    "Adlai your turn"
   
    Mum calls from down the hall, she runs down the stairs and gerald follows after with the wolves. Carter takes a breath of relief
   
    "Damn i've never seen anyone go toe to toe with you like that, no wonder you love her so much"
   
    Arden grins watching her leave
   
    "She is definitely a superstar"
   
    "Honestly she should probably be in high school, you should test her before she goes back because she's too smart for kiddy school"
   
    Fay adds before taking a sip of her drink. I close my eyes as the woman lightly dusts on shadow and liner, usually I would do this all myself but for some reason they had changed the ceremony to a black tie event so we decided to save the trouble of doing it ourselves and just pay for someone to do it for us.
   
    Carter wore a black suit with a black bow tie and black shoes, his messy brown hair was styled like normal. Not too long but not too short and it honestly looked good No Matter what you did with it.
