Hey guys, I'm back... 🫣
Sorry for the extended hiatus, it took me longer than I thought to finish the final chapter of my AU.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this chapter... 😇

~Beatrice~

It was two hours until go time and Beatrice stood in front of the floor length mirror that had been moved into her makeshift dressing room on the ground floor of the Cradle. Standing beside her was Lilith, who was currently fiddling with the pocket square that was supposed to be going in the breast pocket of Beatrice's sleek black suit.

"For fucks sake, I don't think Camila could have chosen a more complicated one if she tried..." She muttered, her hands making jerkier and jerkier movements as she tried to fold the delicate piece of silk.

It was basically comedy at this point, but Beatrice couldn't really concentrate on the hilarity of it, she was barely keeping away the million nervous butterflies that flapped in her stomach.

Today was the day.

It was hard to believe after the rollercoaster of the last few months that they had finally gotten here, that she was finally going to marry the love of her life. It didn't seem real, but more than that, Beatrice felt like the other shoe was going to drop at any moment. Nothing ever went to plan for them, nothing.

She shook her head and bit the inside of her cheek hard, banishing those pessimistic thoughts. Instinct was warning her, but that didn't mean something bad was going to happen.

Instead, Beatrice refocused on Lilith, watching her grow more frustrated with each passing second and remembered their sometimes-torrid history. It was crazy to think about everything they had been through together. The sister warrior turned demon queen had definitely come a long way since betraying them for Adriel.

"There," Lilith announced triumphantly, making Beatrice flinch slightly at the suddenness. "I fucking did it!" With surgical precision, she tucked the meticulously folded gold colored pocket square into Beatrice's jacket. "That's twenty minutes of my life I won't be getting back," she continued, her hands moving to straighten the collar of Beatrice's steel gray dress shirt when she stilled suddenly.

"Lilith?" Beatrice tried to get her attention, but Lilith's eyes were fixed on her neck right where... Oh. Her cheeks started to heat. "Would you believe me if I said I walked into a door frame?"

"You hit your neck on a door frame?" She lifted her narrowed gaze. "Your neck, Beatrice?"

Blood was rushing to her face now, even as she tried desperately to stop it. "Good point."

"So much for tradition..." Lilith tsked, shaking her head as she adjusted Beatrice's collar so that the rather fresh hickey on her neck was covered up. "When the hell did you manage to sneak out?"

"Um... I didn't exactly sneak out."

It was when she came out of the gym that she felt eyes on her. It was early, really early, Beatrice had hoped for solitude at this hour. She wanted to help settle some of the nervous energy thrumming through her veins before the day started and she was expected to be the center of attention.

Beatrice walked towards the stairs leading up to the sleeping quarters of the convent, she glanced down the hallway behind her to see it empty and almost dismissed the feeling of being watched until familiar hands grabbed her arm, stopping her in her tracks and turning her around.

Ava stood there, hair mussed from sleep, like she must've gotten up only a few minutes earlier. Despite that, her eyes were bright and heavy with something Beatrice recognized immediately, the air punched out of her lungs.
