Joseta usually enjoyed sitting in meetings. Being able to discuss things such as visions, plans, and ideas was something she considered fun. But this meeting? She felt like she was going to stab her ears out. It was painful. These were the Republic's best scientists and they were coming up with ideas that a five-year-old would call stupid.

Rex sat beside her, his arm in a sling, as he lulled in and out of sleep. Joseta nudged his arm gently, waking him. "Sorry," he mumbled.

"We can find time for you to nap later, Rexus," Joseta said, nodding to the circular table of scientists discussing. "It's almost done, I think."

Dr. Steed, a broad man, ran his hand through his sandy-colored toupe. "We've tried to stop the flow of toxins with scraps, foam, sending droids—everything."

"How about sending a person?" another doctor, called Oopso, asked, wringing his blue hands together.

"It's too dangerous." Dr. Trentex adjusted his glasses before sorting through his papers. "The toxins are too thick and would dissolve any spacesuit it came into contact with."

Dr. Steed groaned, running his hands across his rotund face. "Why didn't the replacement cover work again?"

"The exhaust kept getting clogged from the growing exellite crystals so it's leaving more of a scrap field to block the leak."

Joseta let out a small laugh beneath her breath, getting a look from Rex beside her. It was ironic that the shuttles trying to clog a leak were getting clogged. Joseta uncrossed her arms, leaning closer to gaze at the holo before them. She zoomed in on the chemicals making up the crystals. "Exellite," she muttered, brows scrunching in thought.

"What are you thinking?" Rex asked, leaning over her shoulder to get a closer look.

"The crystals," Joseta said, nodding as she pointed at them. "I think these little nuisances might be the answer to our problem." She turned to face him, but he was still leaning over her and their noses brushed together. She gulped, leaning away.

"How can you be sure it will work?" he asked, leaning back into his chair quickly.

"I don't, but how else will we find out?" Joseta asked, shooting him a grin.

Joseta wriggled her nose, leaning back in her chair to raise her hand. The council members and scientists turned to her.

"Yes?" Dr. Trentex asked, both brows raising on his forehead, greying hair making his hairline look thinner than it was.

Joseta took a breath, examining the scientific name of the crystal again. "Is it possible to use the exellite crystals to clog up the leak?" Joseta asked, crossing her arms over her chest. "It looks like the toxins aren't dissolving the crystals like it did the foam, so maybe we can find a way to shoot these babies in and let nature run its course."
