22 BBY, Month 10
Joseta
Joseta thanked the waitress, before sliding into the booth across from Rex. He looked rather uncomfortable in his armor, taking off his helmet to better blend into the crowd of the diner. Dishes clanked in the background while chatter rose around them. It felt like home. She missed her favorite diners on Corellia and luckily had found a chain similar on Coruscant. Same company, different name sorta deal.
"What did you get?" Rex asked, clasping his hands in front of him as he leaned on the table. His eyes darted around the room, no doubt noting the obvious stares of onlookers. It was almost like they'd never seen a clone before—well, maybe they hadn't. Joseta had to hand it to them, she hadn't seen any clones face-to-face until working with the GAR, and she couldn't help but stare, too.
Joseta cleared her throat, tapping the receipt she placed before her. "I got us smashed burgers. If these are anything like the ones back home, it will knock your socks off—if you're wearing them of course."
A small smile blossomed on his face. "That's classified."
A guffaw escaped Joseta's lips. Rex not wearing socks was a funny thought to her. That was disgusting. "Well, Captain Classified, I think I'd rather it kept a secret than knowing—or that you wear the same socks all week like some clones I know." Joseta almost gagged at the thought of Fives' sock dilemma.
Rex nodded solemnly, his lips pursing. "I know who you are talking about."
"Fives." "Jesse."
Joseta's eyes widened. "No way." She had heard of Jesse, though hadn't officially met him yet. "I don't think I've had the honor to meet the other hygiene neglector."
"He's a good friend," Rex said, leaning back into the booth as he pointed to his face. "He has the tattoo of the Republic symbol on his face."
Joseta shook her head, before pausing. "Oh, does he also have it on his helmet?"
Rex nodded. "That's the guy."
"When I first joined, I think he slapped me really hard after my speech," Joseta said, wincing at the recollection. "I think I got bruised, but I was at least appreciative of his welcome." She looked down. "I don't think most were happy I was there."
"We clones take pride in our abilities and sometimes feel...tossed aside when help is offered," Rex explained, looking at his gloved hands, picking off some fuzz. "It's hard to accept help."
"I get you," Joseta muttered.
"Josefa!" A voice called from behind the counter.
Joseta groaned. "The 'T' is literally written right there," she muttered, pulling herself to her feet, but Rex shot up first.
"I got it," he said, brushing past her. Joseta took Rex's helmet from the table to hold herself. Rex took the greasy paper bag from the waitress behind the bar. "And her name is actually José," he said with a straight face.
