Rex sat in his office on the edge of the barracks of the Resolute reading through the files on his datapad he had to finish. He had to finish before he could relax on Coruscant. They were only a few hours away and it seemed the files only grew. His mission files, incoming requests, clone assessments, and everything else was thrown into his datapad, making a mess of things. It was never ending.

There was a knock at the door. "Come in," Rex grumbled, not looking up. Maybe Kix was coming back again to apologize for his behavior after their talk of his loose lips.

"Captain?" Joseta asked.

Rex's gaze snapped up to meet hers, his posture straightening. "Um, Pro'oz, what is it?" He mentally kicked himself. Why did he always have to sound so curt?

Joseta bit her lip, looking at her feet. "Can I sit?"

Rex nodded, gesturing to the seat in front of his desk. "Sure."

She plopped down, licking her lips as she sat there in her thoughts. Finally, her eyes met his. "Was it wrong of me to address my concerns about the flowers?"

Rex's eyes widened. Of all things, she was worried about following protocol? "No." He shook his head. "I think it shows courage that you are willing to face resistance even if you are asking to do what's right."

Her shoulders relaxed but the look on her face still bore anxiety. "I just know that my mother sent me to her own choice of general because she didn't trust me," she said, gulping. "I had gotten into some trouble in the Academy."

Rex furrowed his brows. So Joseta was known for being irresponsible? Nothing was adding up. "I will need more context to understand what you are saying."

"I was unaware of some rules and the wrong people took advantage of that," she muttered, a frown forming. "I ended up causing a scandal of sorts and the only reason I graduated was because my mom pulled some strings."

Rex scoured his brain for scandalous news from the past few years. He made a mental note to look into it later. "So, now you are a goody-two-shoes rule-follower?"

Joseta looked as if he just slapped her. "I've always been that," she spat out, crossing her arms. She removed the look. "Sorry, sir. I just meant that I'm oblivious and often accidentally do something wrong or people use my weakness against me because they don't like my mom."

"So your point in bringing this up?"

Joseta hesitated. "I am curious as to why she even put me with Skywalker," she said. "If she wants to keep me out of trouble, then why put me with the General who breaks the rules the most?"

Rex's mind flicked back to the meeting with her mom, Senator Pro'oz. She didn't seem too worried about how her children would behave, rather she cared for their safety. "I think that you will need to ask your mother for the reasons why. Because with your supposed history, it does seem strange that she would put you with Skywalker rather than Kenobi like she did your brother."
