Meiko Pov:

Raijin is finally staying!

It's strange.

Not just have the stray around here, it's the fact I feel like I know him. Like I have to protect him.

It's giving me a headache to try work it out. I take in a deep breath before knocking on Raijin's door.

While it's smart to take precautions with him, why the heck did Sasuke have to put him thirty minutes away from the rest of the sleeping quarters.

It's irritating as anything to have to go all this way just to pick him up.

I knock on the door loud and clear.

Nothing.

Silencio.

"Um Raijin, it's time to go to the ceremony." I say.

"Well let's go then." He says from behind me.

I jump and turn to the smirking boy.

"Funny." I spit between gritted teeth.

"Glad you think so too y'know."

Brat.

"Did you have a bath?"

"Nup." He pops the P.

I huff. If he wants to smell bad not my problem. Except I have the greatest urge to grab his clothing and straighten it out and comb his unruly hair.

"Come then." I hold out my hand. He looks at it and raises an eyebrow.

"Lead the way." He gestures to the corridor.

"Has anyone ever told you how high maintenance you are?" I joke as we walk.

"Actions speak louder than words y'know."

"I suppose." I reply quietly. My mother certainly taught me that. I trace the inside of my wrist where my outcast mark burns.

"So, this uh ceremony, anything I need to know?"

"Just stand still and quiet. Think you can do that?" I grin at the face Raijin makes.

"I can try." He says uncertainly.

"That's the best anyone can do." I ruffle his hair.

We freeze.

I didn't even mean to.

Didn't even realise I'd gotten that close.

Raijin's eyes are wide and panicked. He back away until he hits the wall and quickly ruffles the bird nest atop his head.

"I...I'm sorry." I stutter. He looks like he's about to bolt. The tapping starts up again.

I don't think it's a habit to annoy people.

A million years pass as we stand in the corridor. In reality it's only like a minute.
