Hinata Pov:
"Himawari it's time for your lessons" I dismiss her quietly. She bows and hurries off. I don't blame her. What I wouldn't give to avoid this meeting.
"So...do we, stop them?" Sakura asks hesitantly.
"I think their fine for now." Meiko bites her nails.
"For now?" Naruto looks tired.
"For now." Sai grimaces.
Ino looks thoughtful as she stares into the distance.
"What are you thinking Ino?" I ask her. She comes to her senses and fiddles with her fingers.
"It's just, Inojin and Shikidai. They both saw a memory from Raijin. So did Meiko and I but, the memory kind of opened itself up to us. I think that there's a type of enchantment or spell or something on him that lets certain images be shown. Things that we maybe need to know? I don't know it's a theory." She shrugs it off.
"It's a good theory. But who could've done such powerful magic?" Sakura prods.
"Shifters." Meiko says bored.
Naruto's head whips around. "Your telling me that he's a shifter!"
"No, old man." She rolls her eyes. "But a powerful enough shifter could create something for their compass if they wanted."
"Like Boruto's necklace?" I ask.
"Yeah. It would be similar in design and such. The difference is that they could attach the spell to anything." She informs us.
"How many compass' are there?" Sasuke inquires.
"I don't know." Meiko shrugs.
"How can you not know?!" Naruto exclaims.
"The shifter system is different to yours King Naruto." Meiko spits.
She continues, "Whether or not you tell people of your compass depends on who you are. If you have enemies, or if your just a private person in general."
"So Raijin might be an unregistered compass?" Shikamaru asks.
"Yeah. Sometimes a shifter might just 'ping' find their compass. Most commonly compass mates are strays. Rarely is a compass mate from a Royal family." She drifts off.
"Why is it so rare?" Sasuke asks ignoring her obvious upset.
Sakura elbows her husband who winces at the jab.
"Your compass mate reflects you. Keeps you good, stable. It's someone who you would burn the world for." Tears slip down Meiko's cheeks and Naruto and I rush to comfort her.
After we pull away she looks us in the eye, "I've been lying to you." I tilt my head quizzically.
"About what?" I stroke her silver-blonde hair.
"My mother disgraced me from the shifter Kingdom. Ii haven't been able to return since she found out about my compass mate." I hug her again.
Being kicked from your family must have been horrible. I can only imagine and even then it probably wouldn't measure the weight of her pain.
"My mother is the shifter Queen. Queen Neimora." She puts her face in her hands.
I feel my own tears traverse down my face.
Oh Meiko.
She brushes her tears away forcefully and smiles. Her smile only breaks my heart more.
"Anyway, so Raijin said he stayed with Lord Dasume." She changes the subject.
