Penn Pov:
"I'll go." Point volunteers.
My fears rush to the surface. Point has always always been a bit of a wildcard. His emotions can sit steady for hours then out of nowhere can transform. During his transformations his Beastie takes a lot of control and fuels him onward.
"Be careful Point." I plead. I really really want him to stay safe.
Sure we all have been put through painful and excruciating endeavours but Point's punishments were always doubled. He's both the reason many of us are alive and why many of us are dead.
Point smiles softly. It makes my heart beat faster and my cheeks warm. He places his hand on my head looking me deep in the eyes and says, "always am y'know.''
That's bullshit. He is a stickler for danger and adventure. He didn't even promise me. Why is he so stupid?
I know the answer by I'm afraid of the truth. I should know by now that fear makes me weak. Our teachers always said so, but I can't help it.
"Bullshit! Kissing a dragon is safer than being near your 'careful'!" Camo yells. It's the undeniable truth by Camo us no right to say so.
He's so annoying. He's just like Point. No wonder their bestfriends.
"Shut up!" Ink and I yell. He's brash and impatient but once upon a time he was happy, lively and content.
Times changed when Point was ordered to kill his little sister...while he watched.
It didn't stop their friendship but there's always tension lurking in the background like a rot.
Point fixes his hold over his ears and hair before stepping out to greet our 'visitors'. So far Ink won't tell us who they are, just that we need their help if we've any hope of restoring our identities.
"So...you gonna let me out of the trance Penny-snatcher?" Camo asks, his face still buried in the decaying wooden floorboards.
"Are you gonna stop being a meanie?" I ask teasingly.
On the other side of the room Ink snorts, "is that even possible?"
"Ha ha ha ha ha. Lemme out!" He snaps.
I roll my eyes but thread my way to him and hover my hands above his body.
I close my eyes and focus on the dust particles getting a sense for each and everyone of the small mites. Instinctively I pull at the dust around me and release the spell attached to them.
I reopen my eyes and watch as the pretty, gold specks dull and the spell disintegrates. Camo hops up on his haunches and shakes the leftover out of his hair resembling a wet dog shaking away droplets.
"Thanks." He grins. I smile in return and accept his offered hand to stand back up.
I flit back to Point and I's cot and plop back down, immediately missing his warmth and presence.
Stop it! He's my friend. Nothing more. Nothing less. We can comfort each other and bring each other out of the dark places but that's it.
He probably likes the dark haired girl with beautiful matching eyes, or the spiky haired male. Heck, even the blue haired, pale faced male.
Anyone but me...because that's how it always is.
I shake my head to rid the notion. I'm just insanely jealous, nothing else to it. I can't be selfish. I need to help others. That is my purpose. Coincidentally, it also is exactly the opposite of what our teachers wanted so it's a win-win.
