Your eyes stared into stainless steel as your mind was blank. All you could focus on was the familiar feel of fingers massaging themselves through your scalp, and the sweet scents of rosemary clogging your nostrils. Suddenly the long nails were replaced by cool water.

"All done."

Before you could say anything, a towel gripped your curly wet hair, gripping onto it and rubbing it dry before the person behind you let the towel fall on your shoulders. As you stood, you pressed your eyelids together to squeeze the water out before finally opening your eyes.

Your eyes met another brown pair and you smiled, "Thanks Nique."

Your best friend nodded her head at you, "I'm not these new stylists, wash and dry is included in the hair care package."

The both of you giggled at her unseriousness. But your smile slightly faded as you let out a small sigh. "No, I mean it. Thank you, for everything. Without you, I'd honestly probably be dead."

Even though you breathed out the last part of your sentence, you could tell Unique heard you well by the way she kissed her teeth.

"I told you to stop thanking me, we've been friends for a long time. I know if the roles were reversed you'd do the same for me."

She smirks at you, "Besides, you won't let me take you out for your birthday this weekend. So the least I can do is do your hair, I know it's not a forty-inch buss down, but hopefully, some good old-fashioned bohemian braids will do for big 20. And besides, if I look good, my bestie has to look good too. Now come on so I can do your hair."

You giggle as she dramatically flips her silk press before turning on her heels as she flaunts her way over to the couch.

You follow behind her in the living room, you glance at your air mattress as it stands upright against the wall to make room in the small area.

Unique sat on the couch that was covered in hair products. Her bare thighs spread wide for you to sit in between them. The second you sat down, you felt the chill of her rat tail comb on your scalp.

Your hand reaches behind you as you palm for the remote. "Did you want to watch something?"

She's so focused on making sure your middle part is straight that all she can mutter is a small "mhm."

You smile as you turn on the small TV that sits on the brown stand.

You immediately click on Netflix and select a familiar show.

You feel her comb pause on your head as she kisses her teeth.

"Bridgerton again, Y/n? How much Simon and Daphne can you take? Simon is overly toxic and Shonda Rhimes's swirl addiction needs to be studied-"

You awkwardly turn your neck so that you can look her in her eyes. "Can you remind me who's the birthday girl?"

Unique raises a brow, " And can you remind me who's going to be doing your hair for the next few hours?"

You smirk, "You still didn't answer my question."

Unique glares you down, but your grin doesn't falter. She rolls her eyes before laughing, "Fine, put the damn show on ... for the thousandth time. You're lucky it's your 20th and not 19th."

You giggle before pressing play.

But after many dramatic and extremely sexy episodes, you jumped as someone banged loudly on Unique's apartment door. Your head was pushed forward as the woman immediately shot up. She muttered a small, "Shit."

The sight of her fingers running through her hair made your brows furrow. "Who do you think it is?"

She shrugs her shoulders, "I think it might be the landlord, I haven't paid this month's rent on time and he told me he'd personally come and kick me out of here if I was ever late again."
