Jisung's voice cut through the room like a sharp blade, his words laced with bitterness as he glared at Hyunjin. "You always mess things up, Hyunjin. Why can't you just get it right for once?" he tension in the air was palpable as Hyunjin's expression hardenden, hurt evident in his eyes. The others weren't home and Hyunjin was happy to spend some time with Jisung, since the two of them hadn't had a great start. Well... Hyunjin and Sungie weren't, to be precise. Hyunjin tried to do his best, but now that Jisung was reacting like Sungie whenever he did anything, he didn't know what to do. The two of them were making the batter for the waffles, but Hyunjin accidentally grabbed salt instead of sugar.
And so the batter was of course ruined, but this happened at the same time that the door to the house opened, which meant that the others were coming back. With a last look at Jisung, who was probably now in his headspace, Hyunjin disappeared from the kitchen. The tears he had been suppressing the whole time now ran uncontrollably down his cheeks. He locked himself in his room, threw himself into his bed and let out all of his frustration, but also the hurt that he had been able to hide so well. Nobody knew that Jisung and Sungie were like that to Hyunjin, because the younger one treated him differently as soon as one of the six was around.
The others took care of Sungie, who proudly showed them the unfortunately over-salted dough and sulked about it, but Felix and Minho immediately helped him make a new one. Seungmin and Jeongin both noticed that Hyunjin wasn't with Sungie at all, as they thought. "Sungie sweetheart? Where's Jinnie?" Jeongin asked, but the only answer he got was a simple shrug of the shoulders, until he turned his attention back to Lino and Lixie, who were making the waffle dough with him. Seungmin looked at Jeongin, who also just shrugged his shoulders and then joined the group, while Seungmin discreetly left the kitchen to look for the older one.
He quickly found who he was looking for, because his door was locked, so he gently knocked on the door. "Jinnie?" He said and waited. There was a rustling sound for a few minutes before it was quiet again, so he knocked again. "Jinnie... is everything okay? Please open the door..." Silence, but Seungmin didn't give up and when he wanted to knock for the third time, the older boy opened his door, but only so that he could barely be seen. "Can I come in?" He asked and after a brief hesitation, he opened the door so Seungmin could come in, but he immediately locked it again, which seemed strange to Seungmin. "Hyun? Is everything okay?" He asked and waited to be able to look the boy in the eyes, but he didn't turn around or answer.
Seconds later, he became aware of the soft and quiet sobbing. "Hyunie... why are you crying? What's wrong?" He asked again while he hugged him. "N-nothing's wrong. Everything's fine. Aren't you supposed to be with... with S-sungie?" He asked while wiping the tears from his face. Seungmin, however, didn't believe him and just looked at him. "Yes, but you are too. And your no with him either. Let's go to the kitchen together, Sungie and the others are making waffles." Seungmin smiled, Hyunjin took a deep breath so as not to burst into tears again and more or less unintentionally followed Seungmin back into the kitchen. They were already sitting at the table eating, so the two of them just sat down and ate too.
When it came to cleaning up, however, there the fun began. Seungmin, who had a bad feeling, tried something. "Hyun, would you go to the living room with Sungie? I have to discuss something with the others and that's not for little Sungies." The younger one giggled until he protested. "Nwoooo Minnie! Sungie ish a bwig boi!!" Everyone giggled, except for Hyunjin. But as the others waited for his answer, he swallowed discreetly until he thought of the stupidest thing he could ever say. "I can't, I have to water my room!" He wanted to get up and storm off, but Changbin put a stop to his plans. "Come on Hyunie... it seems to be important..." The older one pleaded.
Hyunjin sighed, turned to the little devil who looked at him innocently and then nodded. "Fine.. come on S-sungie... let's go play..." He said and held out his hand to the younger one, who took it and as soon as they were out of sight, the fun began. He pinched the older one, pushed him and hit him. And Hyunjin put up with it, knowing that the younger one wouldn't listen to him anyway. Meanwhile, Seungmin told the other five about his suspicions, which they didn't want to believe at first, until just a few minutes later they heard the front door slam shut. They immediately ran into the living room where Sungie was sitting and looking at everyone innocently.
Seungmin walked up to the younger one and knelt down at his eye level. "Sungie. I'll only ask you that once, and if you lie to me, you'll go to the time-out corner.. and the more you lie, the more minutes you have to stay in." Sungie nodded. "Did you make Hyunjin cry a few hours ago?" he shook his head. "Are you sure?" the Caregiver asked and the little boy nodded with a grin. "Stand up." the older said dryly, and when he stood up he pulled him by the hand into the time-out corner. "Your first lie. Why did Hyunjin storm out of the house? What did you do, huh?" he asked. "Sungie did nofing! Jinnie ish da meanie not Sungie!" he protested. "That's already 10 minutes. I'll ask you again, what did you do that made him storm out of the house, huh?"
Sungie looked to Felix for help, knowing that he wasn't so strict with him. "Minnie, why would Sung-" - "Lix, I like you and everything, but be quiet. He knows exactly what I'm talking about. Am I right, Sungie?" He was silent. "Okay. 20 minutes. Are you talking on your own or do Channie and Lino have to take over now, huh?" Since he didn't get an answer again, he stood up and looked at Chan and Minho, who were both walking towards the boy. "Sungie, if you are really responsible for Hyunjin crying and now running away, then you're getting yourself in even more troble for not talking and lying, do you understand that?" He nodded, but that evening it was just a simple punishment of 20 minutes and Hyunjin remained missing.
After they put Sungie to bed, they tried to call the boy, but then they heard his cell phone ringing in the kitchen. The six caregivers waited all evening for the black haired one to return, but Chan, who was the last one awake, gave up at around 3 in the morning and went to sleep too.
