Midnight arrived a lot quicker than the anxious couple were expecting, though neither one of them were complaining. The chimes from the living room clock broke them out of their individual conversations, their gazes immediately shifting to view the face of the old grandfather clock by the window of Mark’s front parlour. Jaemin had been holding conversation with Jungwoo and Renjun, while Jeno entertained Lucas and Yangyang. To avoid getting confused with the overlapping conversation, the large group had divided themselves out with Jeno’s group gathering by the fireplace, and Jaemin’s by the refreshment table. However, upon registering the delicate chimes, their gazes locked in excitement.

Despite the absence of their host, the party was still in full swing with a few interested couples dancing happily together in the centre of the room. Haechan had taken it upon himself to return the confiscated phones that he had taken from the participants of the party who had not returned from their date. Jaemin was delighted to finally be reunited with his own, his fingers happily typing in Jeno’s contact from memory. As their relationship was something special, Jaemin decided to add a red heart next to the new contact symbolising Jeno’s determination of being the one and only of Jaemin’s suitors.

Distracted by the bliss of what had unfolded a few hours before, Jaemin had been finding it difficult to stay on topic of conversation. His mind having become overwhelmed with various images and scenarios of what could potentially unfold once he and Jeno went for their dessert, the images alone were enough to preoccupy his mind.

A familiar arm gently draped itself against the curve of his waist, making Jaemin’s cheeks burn to the touch. His stomach flooded with butterflies that whipped up a storm at the possessive gesture that was masked in something as simple as a friendly grip. But Jaemin knew who this arm belonged to, his entire body was singing the boy’s name. And though he would never admit it, he was holding onto Jaemin tight to prove a point Jaemin already knew the answer to.

“I’m really sorry to intrude on your conversation,” Jeno spoke with an innocent grin on his lips. “But Jaemin and I have other commitments that we need to attend to right now.”

“You two are leaving?” Renjun exclaimed, his wide eyes jumping from Jaemin to Jeno and back again. “Why didn’t you tell me Jaem? I wouldn’t have talked your ear off!”

Though reluctant, Jaemin forced himself to step out of Jeno’s hold. He flung his arms around his best friend’s neck and gently cuddled into his shoulder. “I didn’t want to be rude!” he explained, turning to replicate his embrace with Jungwoo.

His two friends scoffed, watching through narrowed eyes as Jaemin happily returned to Jeno’s side. They remained mute as the two comfortably greeted each other, Jaemin being bold enough to press a small kiss to the apple of Jeno’s cheek.

“You didn’t want to be rude..” Renjun echoed his earlier statement.

“Of course not, but you’ll let Jeno be the bad guy!” Jungwoo spoke for both of them. Jaemin watched perplexed as his friends folded their arms against their chests, their eyes narrowing as if they were about to scold him further.

“I don’t mind taking the blame,” Jeno’s deep voice admitted with a charming smile, his arm naturally curling around Jaemin’s waist. “It’s still early, but I feel as though I’ll be around him long enough for you to start placing the blame on me.”

“Do I spy a man willing to take the blame, and be incredibly charming about it?” Jungwoo gushed. Jaemin almost scoffed at the way the boy’s eyes shifted into love hearts. “Na Jaemin, you are one lucky guy.” Jungwoo’s eyes continued to glance down Jeno’s figure, his lower lip slipping beneath his teeth.
