Family Secrets 6

Saturday

Dad finally came home after missing almost a whole week with the family. He slammed the car door shut, giving all of us a fright.

I went over to the antique door, opening it slowly, welcoming dad in. I embraced him in a big hug.

The emotion that showed on his face was that of a sad man, but still, he gave me a big warm smile, trying his best to hide his emotions.

"Hi, dad welcome home," I said in the hug.

"Hi, baby girl. I missed you all." He motioned for the rest of the family to give him a hug.

Mom came downstairs to see what all the commotion was about. Dad went over to her giving her a kiss on the cheek, the kiss was cold, not as passionate as they were used to and I could sense something was wrong.

"I am just going upstairs to freshen up, I will see you all downstairs in 10 minutes, we have a family meeting." Dad looked at all of us.

What? A family meeting, we never have those, only when they want to tell us that someone died or when we are going away on family vacations.

Dad came downstairs, he still had the same sadness in his eyes. He looked exhausted but I thought that it was work that kept him busy.

"So we need to talk to you all." Mom said in a low voice that almost sound as if it was breaking.

"Please take a seat," Dad said in the same tone.

The sadness in their voices made it hard for me, I could feel the tears building up in my eyes.

"So who died?" I blurted out placing my hand in front of my mouth without a second thought.

"Z don't be so insensitive." Lucan gave me a nudge on the shoulder and I could feel everyone giving me death stares.

"Okay, I am sorry." I buried my face in my hands, dad gave a little grin and changing the sadness on his face.

"No, but you are all big enough now and we don't want to hurt you, but we got to tell you." Mom's voice was shaking a little bit more and tears started rolling down her cheeks.

"We... we are getting divorced." Dad placed his arm around mom comforting her a little bit.

"What? Why? I thought that you loved Mom, but now you are leaving her."

"Tell them the truth, Billy." Mom moved away from him, wiping the tears from her cheeks. She was still beautiful, even when she cried.

"Tell us what dad?" Lucan stood up from his seat, placing his hand on dad's shoulder.

"There is something that I need to tell you, something that happened a few years ago."

All of us sat, staring at him. We waited for him to speak, to tell us his big secret.

"It... it happened a couple of months after your brother passed away. You must understand, your mother... well, she pushed me away and ..."

"And what dad? What happened?" LJ said with a stern voice.

"I... I had an affair." He said and covered his face with his hands.

"Your mother pushed me away and I seek comfort in the arms of another woman."

Mom was crying, even more, she stepped out of the room. I stood up from where I was sitting.

"How could you dad? I thought you loved Mom." Tears were streaming down my face.

"I do love your mom, but I am not in love with her anymore."

My heart broke, even more, when he said it, my life came crashing down before me it felt like I had no one.
