When I got back to my dorm room, the door was still locked, and I found that rather weird. Aralynne should have been back by now.
The room was dark and gloomy. I quickly switched on the light and looked around.
I have really missed this place and at this moment, it felt more like home than home itself.
I unpacked all my clothes and I laid down on my bed, tired from the flight. Being jetted lagged sucked, it left you all drained. I closed my eyes and the scene of Mike almost kissing me, played over and over in my head. If I had kissed him, he would have cheated on Ashlee, just like he did with me, but this time, I would have been the other woman.
I didn't like her, but still, she was family and you just don't do that to the family. I quickly opened my eyes, knowing that if I sleep, the fresh memory of me and Mike will haunt me and I will not be able to sleep.
I got off my bed and went downstairs to the TV room thinking that maybe there would be a program or movie that would take my mind off of Mike.
I switched on the TV and flipped through the channels when the news attracted my attention.
The news presenter was saying something about an airplane on the route from Paris to New York that crashed and my heart stopped.
I set up the volume and tried to listen if I could hear the flight number as Aralynne had told me the number when we Skyped.
"We are still waiting for any feedback on flight 108 on its way from Paris to New York, that crashed into the sea about one hundred miles east of Miami."
My legs turned to jelly and I sat down in a chair to shocked to even think properly. All that went through my mind was that it was a mistake.
Suddenly I heard the presenter's voice again. "We have more news on flight 108. According to information from search and rescue, no survivors have been found yet."
Frantically I searched through my pockets for my phone and that is when I remembered that I left it up in my room.
Barely able to see through the tears streaming from my eyes, I ran up the steps to get to my room and my phone.
I tripped and fell down flat on my face. Not caring about the throbbing pain, I just stood up and kept on running.
I finally reached my room and walked through the door.
Frantically I searched for my phone and then I saw it beside my bed.
With shaking hands, I took my phone from the bedside table, and I saw that I had a missed call.
Fear settled in the pit of my stomach, afraid. I quickly listened to the voicemail, hearing Aralynne's bubbly and excited voice.
"Hey Zenè, just wanted to let you know, I am boarding my plane soon. Can't wait to see you, I have so much to tell you. Alex has boarded the plane before me, so he should be there soon."
The line went dead after that and with shaking fingers I tried to dial her number.
After the third try, I succeeded only getting her voicemail, and that is when reality sank in she is not coming back.
My only friend, my best friend, is not coming back to me. We had such a short time together.
My phone started ringing and I nearly let it fall from my hand. I answered the call without looking who it was.
"Aralynne?" Was all I could get out, my brain still sluggish from the shock.
"No, Zenè it's Niall."
"Sorry, I thought it was my friend."
"It's fine, the reason why I called, I wanted to know if maybe you want to go and get a coffee with me? I also promise I won't spill it on you." He had this little laughter in his voice that made me smile a little.
"Would you mind if I said no, it... I. Could I take a rain check on that?"
"Sure we will hang out another time then, just let me know, ok."
I could hear the disappointment in his voice."What I actually meant was, I don't want to go out... would you mind coming to the dorm?"
"Sure, okay, I will bring pizza and coffee."
"Good, thanks, I'll see you soon."
I went into the bathroom, brushing my teeth and washing my face, trying to hide the fact that I was crying.
I knew well enough by now that he would see right through me, through the facade that I am trying to put up, with those piercing blue eyes of his.
I went back to my room, and I could see that the door was opened a little bit.
I stepped inside, and Niall was standing there with the pizza box and the coffee in his hands.
"That was quick." I walked past him still trying to hide my face from him.
I sat down on my bed with my phone next to me, just in case Aralynne decided to call, not wanting to accept the reality, but the thought of her being dead, still haunted me.
Niall puts the pizza and coffee down at the bottom of the bed and sat down next to me, placing his arm around my waist, pulling me closer.
"Are you okay Zenè?" His voice was calming
"I don't want to talk about it, please. Not now." I jumped up and grabbed a slice of pizza, shoving it into my mouth.
Niall nodded his head, giving me the space that I needed. He reached out, took a slice of pizza and a coffee, not saying anything.
I finally broke down in tears and told him what happened. He took me into his arms, rocking me while whispering softly that everything will be okay. Life needs to go on.
After a while we fell asleep, I fell asleep in his arms, and it made me feel safe.
*Stay sweet Xoxo ✌.
