Family Secrets 3: Part 1

Part 1 - Wednesday

I woke up in the late afternoon, and my eyes were still hurting from all the crying the night before.

Lucan came into my room and sat down on my bed, giving me that knowing look of his.

"Do you want to hang out today?"

I gave him a little nod before getting out of bed.

"Put on something nice. We are going to paint this little town red."

There was not that much to do in our town, but Lucan knew how to make our outings fun.

A beep came through on my phone, and without hesitation, I told Lucan that he could see who it was.

Trying to be funny, he even told me that he would read the text out loud.

Hi, Miss Carter. Haven't heard from you in a few days. I am sorry I haven't texted you for a while. I've just been busy with shows.

Hope that we can hang out sometime. I will be in New York next week to promote our new album. I'll give you a call when I get there.

I got this cheeky cat, got the cream, and smiled on my face when I heard Lucan reading the message.

"Z, who is this Niall? Is he a new boy you're dating?"

"No, we are just friends, I will tell you all about him later. Just let me finish first." I had this goofy, happy smile on my face.

Niall was still my little secret, and I didn't lie when I said that we were just friends, but deep down, I kind of liked him.

I got dressed and looked at myself one last time in the mirror. This thing with mom and dad was bugging me, and I knew that I could talk to Lucan about it.

The car ride was loud; I was singing to all the songs, and Lucan pretended that he was the instruments, making all the noises that he could.

He always made me feel better; his presence was just enough for me. We stopped at the park, and a lot of memories came back.

I could feel the tears burning in my eyes, threatening to spill onto my cheeks, but I pushed it back, trying not to ruin my day with my big brother.

"So what do you have planned for us today?"

"Don't be so inquisitive." He looked at me, placing a blindfold over my eyes.

"This must be one big surprise." I started laughing, making him laugh with me.

I held onto his arm as he led me towards who knows where. He slowed down and stopped. When he removed the blindfold, I took in the scene with the river and the red blanket; the view was beautiful.

I inhaled a breath of fresh air, enjoying every smell that came with it. Lucan sat down on the blanket, making a little tapping movement with his hand, for me to sit next to him.

"What is all this for?" I looked over at Lucan, giving him a weird little smile.

"Well, It's to celebrate everything that we missed, and you know? I can see something is bothering you."

"In that case, first, let's celebrate, then I will tell you everything."

"To Z for getting into the best Uni in New York and for making her dreams come true." We put up our glasses, toasting to everything we could think of.

The sparkling apple juice made me think of Christmas mornings at grandma's house; she didn't believe in drinking wine at all.
