"Hey girl! I'm so sorry to hear about Scott. You have been in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the service, I was out of town. But did you get the flowers from me and Jim?"
My co-worker Heather asks me with a sad smile on her face. I smile and say "yes! I did thank you, and thank Jim for me"
She then hugs me and whispers "your welcome! You're gonna be ok! You got this"
I break the hug and smile then walk into my office. I'm a call center supervisor, and have been for the last four years. I just came back from bereavement leave, my husband Scott was killed by a drunk driver on his way home from work. I was and still am devastated, to make matters even worse I had to explain to my kids that their father was gone. Scott and I had twins one girl and one boy they are nine years old, and it damn near broke me to break the news to them but I had to tell them the truth.
My mother in law, and sister in law didn't make anything easier either. They found a way like they always do to make Scott's death my fault, my mother in law even went as far as to file for custody of my kids. I was able to get a great lawyer, and went to court and won, after that I was pretty much done with Scott's mother and sister. The fact that she tried to take my kids away from me was the nail in the coffin dealing with her and her weirdo ass hoe bobble headed tramp of a daughter. I had plenty of support from my family and friends, but this shit is hard, I did get a large settlement from the car accident, and I'm expecting to get a even bigger amount of money from Scott's life insurance policy but I need to work until those checks clear.
My job here at the call center as a supervisor is to manage my reps, and also take escalated calls as well, like the one I'm on now. This lady is screaming and yelling at me about her rate increase on her auto insurance policy, "are you even listening to me! Hello?" The woman yells in my headset and I respond with "yes ma'am I'm still here, I was just waiting for you to finish talking"
"Well! Tell me why my policy went up by 4 percent!"
She demands and I sigh then began to tell her how when COVID hit and all the companies went on lockdown, we stopped taking a lot of new customers, and how we are now playing catch up. She interrupts me, and says "look I don't give a fuck about that! I didn't cause COVID, and that is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Listen to me you black bitch! I know you're a black bitch, because only your kind, because you are poorly educated, and this is the only job that would hire your black ass. You work for me so you better fix my policy and amounts owed now or I will personally have you fired do you even know who I am? My husband is a CEO, and I will have your job if you don't do what I say now! And you will have to explain to your baby daddy's why you are jobless" I know this flour roach dusty ass flat ass honkey white she devil didn't just say what she said, I think to myself.
You know what fuck it! I'mma about to lose my job. I laugh then reply with "ma'am first off all, I'm not about to be too many more black bitches, and second of all your name is not Patricia or Bill. So I'm going to need you to lower your voice, I'm a grown ass woman, and I deserve respect! And another thing lady, I graduated college with a bachelor's in business management, then turned around and went back for a bachelors in finance, so miss me with that shit. And furthermore I was married for ten years, and love my late husband to the moon and back and then some, so try again ma'am! You got the right black bitch today!"
She gasps and said "he probably died to get away from your ghetto ass! Good riddance one less nigger walking around"
You know those moments in movies where you see the angel and devil sitting on their shoulders, and they both try to have that person pick wrong or right. Well not mine, they are both screaming at me to drag this bitch to whatever is under hell, I chuckle then say "I can always send you to where he is and you can ask him. No wait I'm pretty sure my husband is with my heavenly father in the upper room, chilling and eating the fruits, and living his best little heavenly eternal life. But I can give you a one way express VIP ticket to hell, and by the way my husband, God bless his soul was white"
