"Can we talk?" I asked, walking up to Frenkie after training as he sat on the resting bench.

"Yeah," he said, tapping the spot next to him, after closing the bottle he was drinking from. "What's up?"

I started looking for words but he interrupted me.

"Is this about Lara?" he asked before I could even say anything and I looked at him before leaning my head in my hands, releasing a deep breath. "You still like her."

"I don't know." I said, looking at him as he leaned back. "That's why I wanted to talk to you. You know a lot about our relationship and you know her too. It's so weird."

"When did you see her first?" he asked me.

"Two weeks ago?" I said, unsure. "I think something like that."

"What did you feel?" he questioned.

I took a breath, thinking. What did I feel?

"Well," I started. "I was shocked at first, I didn't know what she was doing here. Then, I guess, I felt happy. It was like this weird feeling, a warmth mixed with excitement of seeing her again, something like that. I can't explain it, it's too difficult to put it into words."

He didn't say anything so I turned to him and he gave me that knowing look that I was fearing.

"You know." he started. "It seems to me you may still like her. But then, it could just be the shock of seeing her again and all the memories linked with her. But, I don't think it's that. You never stopped loving her."

"On a scale of one to ten, how fucked am I?" I ask and he laughed.

"Zero." he said, still laughing. "You can't help it. You can't just unlove someone."

"Wise words, old man." I said, grinning at him.

"I'll ignore the last part." he said and I laughed.

"But, I don't know how she feels." I said. "Plus, I feel bad because I broke up with her and now I want her back, I feel like I'm messing with her feelings."

"You're not." he shook his head. "I must say that you might have made a mistake when you broke up with her the first time but you took time for yourself, figured out what you want and I think you're both ready now. It may seem like a mistake, even to me, but I think it was meant to be. I think you both needed that break from each other to realise that you're meant for each other."

"Yeah, I suppose." I nodded my head.

"From what I saw yesterday, I think she feels the same. Maybe she hasn't realised it yet, but I think she does." he said. "Her and Mikky are meeting up later today, I think, so if you want I can maybe get her to ask about you. You know she wouldn't make it obvious, she's good with stuff like that."

"I don't know." I said, unsurely. "I think this is something I need to figure out on my own."

He smiled proudly at me, patting my back. "Good answer."

"I appreciate this." I said. "You've helped me so much, I knew that I could count on you."

"Listen, I'm here for a reason." he said. "And if that's not only to play football then let it also be to help you guys out. I wish I had someone like this when I started dating Mikky, things could have been quite different. But, hey, look how we turned out. All fine, more than fine, actually. If it's meant to be, it will be. It may take time, don't expect everything instantly, especially that you broke up with her, but it'll be the way it's supposed to. And I think you two are meant for each other. There's a reason she's here now, it's the right time, clearly."
