She rubs her hands on her thighs, letting out a deep breath.
To say she was nervous was a massive understatement. She was terrified and she didn't even really quite know why.
She had slept with his best friend, yes, but other than that she was over him and he was over her so why does she care so much?
She stood up, hearing the doorbell ring and opened the door. There he stood, a beige shirt clad to his chest and upper arms and black trousers.
"Hey." he said.
She smiled tightly, moving out of the way so that he could come into her apartment. "Hey. Do you want anything to drink?"
"No." he shook his head as he followed her to the living room joined with the kitchen. "I just really think we need to talk."
"Okay." she nodded as they both sat down on the sofa.
"Nice place, by the way." he said and she smiled at him.
"Thanks." she said.
He leaned back onto the sofa once they had sat down and ran his hands over his face, letting out a breath. He pulled his hands away and looked at her.
"I want to ask you something first." he said and she nodded slowly. "No lies, you have to tell me the truth, okay?"
"Okay." she said.
"You promise?" he asked and she nodded again.
"I promise." she said quietly.
"Do you have feelings for him?" he asked.
She was shocked by his question, out of all the ones he could have asked her, she wasn't expecting this one.
"No." she shook her head. "I don't. It was meaningless, he even said it himself."
"Okay." he said slowly. "One more." she nodded and he continued. "How many times did you guys hook up?"
Lara sighed and thats when he knew it definitely wasn't once. No matter what her answer would be, he knew it wasn't once.
"Did he not tell you?" she asked, avoiding the question.
"I haven't spoken to him." Pedri said and Lara raised her eyebrows.
"What, since last week?" she asked and he nodded. "You're insane."
"Maybe." Pedri shrugged. "I wanted to hear it from you first though. You're avoiding my question."
"Three times." she said.
He looked down, running his hands over his thighs just like Lara had done before he came over.
"I'm sorry." she said and he looked up at her. "It was really stupid of me to do that. I don't know why I did it. I guess it was the stress of moving and starting a new job and then seeing you again on top of that and I just needed something that would make me forget about it all. Still, I know that isn't an excuse and I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't have done it. He's your best friend and it wasn't fair of me to do that, I really do regret it."
"Well," he started. "it wasn't nice finding out about it in front of everyone - "
"Everyone knows?" she asked.
"No." he shook his head. "I worded it wrong. What happened was we were all sat in Ferran's living room and then Ferran asked João to get another controller from his bedroom because he was playing so couldn't do it himself. So João went but then he came back with a pair of earrings as well. Your ones, I knew right away, I liked them and when I saw them I immediately knew they were yours. He made fun of Ferran for having them, you know the usual teasing as to why he had a woman's pair of earrings. He got all weird and stressed and that when it was confirmed to me that they were yours. He looked at me all sorry and whatever. Then we went off to the kitchen, but we didn't talk long as I left."
