She stood in front of the familiar door, memories rushing in as she reminisced on the times spent here.

She knocked on the door and within seconds she heard it unlocking. She took a deep breath as she saw it beginning to open.

A white shirt clad to his body, he smiled at her. She smiled back, as if instinctively, they immediately hugged each other. The feeling of comfort and safety enveloped them both as their hands fell into place, just in the right positions.

"I missed you, Lari." he whispered, burrying his head in her shoulder. A warmth filled her at the sound of the nickname that she hadn't heard for two years now. He'd called her that all the time when they were together and she loved it every time he did.

"I missed you too, Pedro." she said, inhaling his familiar scent. That same perfume.

She'd call him Pedri sometimes but it never sounded right to her. She never caught onto the habit of always calling him Pedri, he was always Pedro to her and he loved that. That's why he always told people to call him Pedri, to him his actual name was reserved only for her. The way it rolled off her tongue so naturally filled him with a sense of solace and serenity.

"Come in." he said, moving out of the way to let her get in the house further.

"You haven't changed anything in this place." she laughed.

"You know I don't have an eye for that kind of stuff." he said. "Do you want anything?"

"Just water." she said, sitting at the bar stools at the kitchen island as Pedri walked to a cabinet, getting two glasses out.

"As usual." he said.

"You're doing well?" she asked.

"Yeah," he smiled. He truly did mean it, he's living his dream, how could he not be doing well? "Why did you move here?"

She watched as he poured water into the two glasses and immediately went to get a lemon from his fridge. She smiled at the fact that he remembered such a small thing.

"I got a job offer." she said and he turned around, smiling at her as he walked back to the island, squeezing the lemon juice into one glass. "And for Matías as well. And, also, Rosa moved here last year, you remember her?"

"It's hard to forget her." he said, chuckling.

"Yeah, she's pretty unforgettable." Lara said.

"What's the job?" he asked her.

"You know the brand I've always wanted to work for?" she asked and he turned to her, shocked.

"No, seriously?" he asked her, his eyebrows raised.

"Yeah." she smiled, nodding.

"That's amazing, Lari." he said. "I'm proud of you."

"Thank you." she said, smiling.

"Come to the sofa." he said, taking the two glasses and walking to the sofa. "Your parents are okay?"

"Yeah," she said, sitting opposite him on the sofa. "Why did you want to meet up?"

He took a breath. "I knew you would get right to the point." He said, looking at her. "I just, well, I never really apologised for everything."

"You don't need to." Lara said, shaking her head.

"But I want to." Pedri said. "I didn't mean for it to end the way it did. You didn't deserve that, you did everything for me and I treated you like rubbish."

"Pedro," she said, taking his hands. "you were the best boyfriend I could ask for."

"No," he said. "Maybe for the most part but for the last weeks I treated you like shit and I've never forgiven myself for it. You meant so much to me, you still do, and I was scared of losing you but I did anyway."

For the last weeks of their relationship, Pedri would take hours to respond and would frequently pick fights over the smallest things. He would get angry over pretty much nothing and blame her for every small thing. He'd pick a fight and blame it on her too, he would be cold to her. The stress was overwhelming for him and the tremendous distance between them, between Barcelona and Tenerife, didn't help with that at all. In fact, it worsened everything.

She moved closer to him and hugged him, resting her head on his chest. He immediately felt at peace as the weight of her body familiarly rested against his. He wrapped his hands in the so dear to him way he used to around her waist and kissed the top of her head.

"It's fine." she said.

"I just," he said before pausing. "I don't want to lose you again."

"You won't." she said, his heartbeat a familiar sound in her ear.

"Can we be friends?" he asked. Both their hearts heavy at the words, but neither knew what the other wanted. "I missed you."

"Yeah." she said. She couldn't help the disappointed feeling that he only wanted to be friends. But she told herself she had moved on and smiled at him. "I didn't like these past two years. It felt like something was missing."

"So friends, then?" he asked.

She smiled at him. "Friends."

Pedri and his ex-girlfriend Lara Valente have started following each other again on Instagram. They have liked each other's posts, they seem to be talking again. What do we think? Are they gonna get back together? Or maybe they never broke up in the first place?
