"are you lonely?"

⎯⎯⎯
A roommate.
I speed clean. I don't want my roommate to have a bad first impression. I'm going to be living with them for the next two years.
I pick up everything. I look behind the couch and find my pink underwear.
I've been looking for that for ages!!
I place it in my laundry basket so I can go down to the machines and wash it.
My phone buzzes and a text from my twin brother shows up.
call me!! it reads.
I call him.
"What's up, old lady,"
Old lady is a nickname my brother and sister gave me after they saw me knitting in a pink nightgown. It's kind of stuck.
"Sup, copycat," I tell him.
"Okay I'm the hotter male version of you," He groans.
"Shush," I tell him. "Why'd you need me to call you?"
"Oh right! The detective doing, um, moms case wants to talk to you sometime,"
Oh
Oh.
"Hello?"
"S-sorry. I'm here," I try to keep my voice steady.
"He said you don't have to talk to him now, that you guys can schedule a call for next week or something."
"Oh okay," I say. "I'll let you know,"
"Okay, sweet! Enjoy your new roommate,"
"How the heck did you know?"
"I dunno," He says then hangs up.
What the hell.
He's a great brother, right?
I turn off my phone and begin dusting everywhere. I clean out Pebbles' litter and get all the excess hair off everything.
I hope they're not allergic to cats, yikes!
Three hours later, I've cleaned my entire dorm three times. I reorganize all my plants and hide all my no-no books.
I leave my sweet romance books on the shelf and hide my dark romance books behind those.
I'm so smart hehe.
I take a seat on the couch and begin scrolling through Pinterest while torturing my cuticle.
