The hum of the private jet surrounds us, creating a cozy bubble as we soar above the clouds. I can't help but steal glances at my little family as I settle into my seat beside Kai.
He looks so relaxed, a soft smile on his face as he watches Alex bounce with excitement across the aisle.
Chloe is absorbed in her activity book, her tongue peeking out in concentration as she colors a hockey player with an oversized head. "Look, Mommy! I drew a hockey player!" she announces, beaming with pride as she holds it up for me to see.
"That's amazing, sweetie!" I praise, leaning in closer. "I can't wait to hang it on the fridge when we get home."
"Can I draw a dragon next?" she asks, already flipping to a fresh page, her eyes sparkling with creativity.
"Absolutely! Dragons need to be a part of the hockey team too, don't they?" I laugh, amused by her whimsical mind.
Across the aisle, Alex, our two-year-old whirlwind, is captivated by the view outside the window. His little legs swing excitedly as he points at the clouds. "Airplane!" he exclaims, his face lighting up with joy.
"Yes, it's an airplane!" Kai responds, his voice full of enthusiasm. "And we're flying to California to see the big game!"
"California!" Alex shouts, clapping his hands.
His excitement is contagious, and I can't help but grin.
"Can you say 'hockey'?" I ask, trying to encourage him to expand his vocabulary.
"Haw-kee!" he attempts, his pronunciation adorable and endearing.
Awwwwww.
"Close enough!" Kai laughs, leaning forward with pride in his eyes. Seeing him so engaged with the kids fills my heart with warmth.
He's such a wonderful dad, always making time for them, even amid the chaos of his career.
As the plane climbs higher, I take a moment to absorb everything—the laughter, the love, and the shared excitement of the journey ahead. I intertwine my fingers with Kai's, feeling the bond between us strengthen with each passing moment.
"Do you think they'll be excited to see me at the game?" Kai asks.
"Definitely," I reply, squeezing his hand.
Chloe looks up from her drawing, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Daddy, can I cheer for you at the game?"
"Of course, princess! You can cheer as loud as you want!" Kai promises, and I can already picture her bouncing in her seat, waving her arms as if she's already in the stands.
"I'm gonna bring my big foam finger!" she declares, throwing her arms into the air, the excitement bubbling out of her.
"Me too! Foam finger!" Alex echoes, clapping his hands and bouncing in his seat. Their laughter fills the cabin, and I can't help but chuckle at their uncontained enthusiasm.
