I watch, not creepily, as Kai unpacks his stuff.
This guy has a lot of it.
I am not ready to be sharing a room with a guy at all. Our beds are so close together, it's like sleeping in the same bed!!
Calm down, Leighton.
"So, do you know Leo?" I ask, trying to sound casual.
He perks his head up and grunts, meaning 'who?'
Yes, I speak fluent Kai whatever his last name is.
"Leo Winters, he's my twin brother and is your age, I assume."
"Yeah," he mutters.
"Yeah, you know him?"
"Mhm," he says as he walks into the room, and I follow him.
"Oh, nice!" I smile. It's nice my brother has friends. "He doesn't go here anymore."
"I know,"
"So, what's your schedule?" I ask, curious because I want to know how late his last class goes.
He hands me a paper, and I admire it. Okay, his latest class goes 'til 3. I can work with that.
"What time do you usually eat dinner?" I ask, handing him his paper back.
He shrugs in response.
This guy knows nothing, huh?
I look toward my phone, hoping it's not my dad texting me.
It is.
The detectives want to talk to you, slut. Call them, is what the message reads.
A slut? I haven't even kissed a guy.
I blink my tears back so Kai doesn't see me crying because that is embarrassing.
Oh, wait.
I rush to the kitchen and open the cabinets, hoping I find some of my sleeping pills.
None.
I need them or else I'm going to keep Kai up at all waking hours of the night.
Kai notices me run into the kitchen, so I turn to see him staring at me.
"Oh, hi," I smile, trying to play it cool.
"Hi," he replies.
Oh, he speaks!!
I ignore the fact my sleeping pills are nonexistent and just decide I'm never sleeping again.
Kai walks over to the couch.
Correction, Kai walks over to my bookshelf.
He looks through my books, scanning the pages. Then when he removes one book, it shows the pile of dark romance books.
Oh crap.
"Oh, um!" I stammer, putting the book back. "That's nothing."
He moves my hand, disobeys, and grabs the book.
The worst one.
I want to die right now.
He opens a page and begins reading it, his eyes widening slightly.
Oh-
"Yeah," I say quietly, ashamed.
He puts the book back and walks back into my—our room.
I grab my phone and order pizza without asking Kai.
I can't let my life revolve around this guy.
That's going to make him hate me even more.
Oh, that's right.
