"No!" he screamed. "No! Not her!"

His wet hands grasped anything, desperately trying to hold himself up. The wound on his side was big — blood welled out of it. His vision was going double. He was doing all he had not to black out.

His enemy laughed, just before he stabbed his mother.

The world stopped.

Lief fell.

"No..." Lief gasped out. He crawled to his mother, trying to stem the flow of the blood. She looked up at him, her eyes slightly unfocused. Her eyes sparkled with joy, even in her last moments.

"I've got you, I've got you. You're not going to... I've got you —"

"Lief." His mother placed her soft hand on his arm. She smiled softly. "I'm alright."

He nodded fervently, tears welling up in his eyes. "Yes. Yes, you're fine. I've got you. HELP!" he shouted. But no one heard him. They all ran. "PLEASE, WE NEED HELP!"

His mother winced at his loud voice. Her beautiful boy, she loved him so much. Her last moments would be with him, and she couldn't be happier. "Lief. I need to — to tell you something."

His eyes snapped to hers.

"Always be gentle. You have a — kind heart. Don't let — anyone tell you what to do. Fo-follow it. And –" she broke off.

"What?" Lief urged, shaking her slightly. "What did you want to say?"

She didn't open her eyes. "And I love you. Remember that."

She stopped breathing.

The tears poured down Lief's cheeks. He screamed for help until he thought his throat would rip. He sobbed until he thought his body would run out of water. And he held his mother the whole time. They were the only ones left on the battlefield.

The sky broke into the break of dawn. It was raw red, so bright that Lief squinted against the light. No noises. No birds. No swords clanging. No more crying.

Lief slowly pushed himself up onto his knees and loosely held his sword in his hand, resting it by his side. As he looked into the red sky, he vowed to rid the world of Araluens. All of them. To avenge his mother's killers.

He walked off into the distance.

Back in Araluen, Lief woke up from his memory-dream gasping.

Oh. My. Gosh. I was holding my breath the whole time. And I'm the writer. I hope you guys enjoyed this one because, oh boy, I loved it. I thought it would be really cool to explore some other characters, other than Will. We see a lot of him, and like a normal book,  we would know more about others. So i wrote this chapter.

But who hoo that I updated two days in a row! Now that it's summer break, I'll probably be updating much more often. Alright! Comment your thoughts and feel free to share with your friends! Just remember to say who wrote it *wink*. Have a great day!
