Eight - Choose Your Fighter

    "WoW."
     "Dang straight."
"WoWWWWW."

Alan and K are standing dumbfounded at the city center, watching.
"Whelp, I vote for skipping right over to the next city." K states.
Alan sighs. "If we're going to find people stupid enough to join us, this is our best bet."
And so they continued to ask around with no luck.
One girl declined, but said, "I know someone who might be interested. I'll take you to her."

They found the person she had in mind at a picnic table in the park, halfway across town. It appeared to just be another melitopian, but she seemed to recognize them immediately.
"No. Not... Anybody but..." She turned around. "No!" She rounded on the girl. "Why did you bring Him here? Don't you have any clue what happened the last time?"
"Girl, that was before I was born." the girl says, skating away.
The melitopian cursed.
K-391 took a closer look at her. He had heard of her before. She had eyes that shimmered from powder blue to hot pink, and her blond haircut was asymmetrical, short on one side, long on the other. K-391 was pretty sure her name was Ava Max.
Ava Max turns to the two, but Alan Walker in particular. "No! Whatever you want, no!" she folds her arms and turns the other direction.
"What..." K-391 starts.
"NO!" She cuts him off. "I won't... No! Goodbye!" She turned and attempted to leave.
Alan Walker yelled after her. "Sure! Ignore everything! You haven't changed at all, I see!"
Ava Max turned around. "And you're still acting like a son of a B sharp! What exactly is so urgent, NCS princess?"
Alan Walker was furious now. "Oh WoW! The most creative thing I've ever heard you say!" He got up on the picnic table and continued to yell over her response. They were in a full-out shouting match now.
K-391 couldn't take it anymore. K-391 breaks them up with a force field.
"Hey! Am I seriously in a situation where I'm the only adult now? This is not helping!" He turned to Alan Walker. "Alan, get off the table. Stop stirring up old fights, we need the help, you said it yourself."
K-391 turned to Ava Max. "Look, I don't know what it is between you and Alan, but I know he's ticked off a lot of people. And he didn't come here to ask you for help, I did."
"What?" She said, still mad.
"The other day, a NCS ship attacked our home..."
Alan coughs.
K gives him a hard look and continues. "And attempted to abduct me. However, my friend Ahrix saved me at the cost of him being captured instead. And now I'm trying to get him back. Alan knows where the fortress is, but we need help. So we came here."
"So THIS is K-391." Ava Max says thoughtfully. "Alan mentioned before that you were the only person more annoying than me."
"Yeah," K-391 replies. "That sounds like Alan."
Ava Max considers for a moment. "Come with me."

Ava Max takes them to a room with shelves of scrolls.
"Bit old-fashioned, maps on scrolls." Alan Walker comments.
"Well, my phone died." She takes a roll off a shelf and rolls it out. "North of here, WAY north, there's a huge mountain range. Right?"
"Yes... That's one way to put it." Alan Walker acknowledges sarcastically.
"Shut up. Anywho, there's a huge lake. The frozen sea they call it. In one of its corners..."
"Lakes have corners?" K-391 asks.
"This one does. In the corner, there's a ring of mountains completely sealing off an area of 100 square miles off from the rest of the world. And here's the thing. No one knows what's in there. People have tried to find out and failed. The easiest way in is a ravine between two mountains, but people who go in don't come back. And that's where I think the NCS fortress is."
"That can't be right." Alan Walker contradicted. "I remember the fortress being more east, and not nearly as north." he points to another map.
"Are you sure? You remember?" K-391 queries.
Alan's face fell and he became distant in the way it usually did when his time at NCS was mentioned. K usually avoided this topic for this very reason.
"NCS fortress or not, this is something that should be checked out, It's... more or less in the general direction." Ava Max reasoned, glancing at Alan Walker. It was tense for several seconds.
"Alright," Alan Walker said, raising his hands in defeat. "This has got me curious."
K-391 whoops. "When do we leave?"
"I can be ready by sunset." Ava Max starts.
K-391 laughs. "How?"
"Wait, she's coming with us?" Alan Walker asks with a start.
"Of course! You guys need me!" Ava Max retorts.

Silence.
Both Alan Walker and K-391 burst into laughter.
