Seventeen- Telescope
The airship chugged along, into the morning, over mountains and rivers and valleys. As night fell again, K-391 stepped out onto a balcony to watch the sunset. The others followed. They watched in silence for a while, as the sun disappeared over the horizon and the sky darkened. "Look!" Ava Max exclaimed after some time. She pointed out the first star in the sky. K-391 pointed out another. Soon the whole sky was covered in stars. K-391 watched in wonder, his hood blowing in the cold night air. He looked over at Alan Walker, Who was also watching the sky. His blue eyes reflected the night sky perfectly. There was something in them K-391 couldn't quite place, a sorrow, or a longing...
TFR broke the silence. "You know, there's an old Arcadian Legend that if you count all the stars in the sky, you learn the meaning of life."
"That seems like something you would try." Alan Walker comments.
"What's that supposed to mean?" TFR asks.
"Based on what I'm hearing from your music, you just seem like that kind of person."
"You can tell? Wow, you are good."
"Yeah."
Silence for a few more seconds except for TFR's music.
"I really like this one actually." K-391 says, turning to TFR. "What's it called?"
"Telescope." TFR responds.
Nothing more was said for a few more minutes.
"The Melitopians also have a similar Legend. They say for each artist, there's a star up there in the sky." Ava Max adds. "And gosh darn if I haven't spent so many nights looking for mine."
"I often like spending time in an open area just watching the sky." K-391 chimes in. "I find it so hard to believe that I can't just reach out my hand and touch the stars or the moon." Silence for a little while longer.
"Man, all my parents told me was if I spent too much time outside looking at the stars I'd freeze to death!" Alan Walker complains.
They all laugh.
"You must have been sooo glad when you found out you were immortal." TFR jokes. The others laugh, but Alan Walker just sighs. They then go back to watching the stars.
K-391 counts silently, "Three, two, one..." The sky lights up slowly, but the change is evident. Within minutes the sky is lit up with the majestic glow of the northern lights.
"Wow." Ava Max says.
"I grew up watching these out my window every winter." K-391 responds.
"Me too." Alan Walker agrees.
"I didn't get to see these as often as you." TFR contradicts. "Arcadia is under a weather dome that's somehow linked to my moods, that's how it became stormy all of a sudden that time, so I rarely get to see the Auroras. They sure are beautiful though." And with that, no more needing to be said, they fell into silence once again.
