When Annabeth awoke, everything seemed clearer, every noise was louder, and it was almost as though she could feel the molecules that make up everything. She was in shock, but that soon ended. Victoria was in her sight again, and the woman looked anxious and ready to run for the hills.
"We've got to get moving." Victoria stated, as she pulled Anna to her feet.
"Why? What's going on?" She asked, looking at Victoria with furrowed eyebrows.
"The Cullens are after James. He foolishly decided to go after your sister, knowing the Cullens would not stop to save her," Victoria replied,"He is your mate, Annabeth, you have to save him."
"Where is he?" Anna questioned, feeling very worried for James.
"You have to use your gift," She commented, causing Anna to look at her surprised,"James didn't tell me, I found out myself," She added,"Use your gift. Close your eyes and make it work." She said forcefully, and Anna did as she was told.
**dream-like state**
Anna glanced around, and somewhat recognized the area.
"Anna?"
"Where are you going?" She asked, as he stared at her wide eyed.
"What happened? Who turned you?" He asked, feeling worried and angry.
"It doesn't matter!" She exclaimed,"Tell me where you're going!"
"Phoenix," He replied,"but Anna, you won't be happy with me."
"I know what you're doing," She murmured,"but I have to save you. The Cullens will end you, and I can't have that."
"Anna--"
"Be slower," She commented,"I'm getting there as fast as I can, but I have to make it on time. Please, don't die on me."
**end of dream-like state**
"Where's he going?" Victoria asked, the moment Anna opened her eyes.
"Phoenix, Arizona," Anna replied,"That's about twenty four hours by car, but by plane it's--"
"Annabeth, you forget, you're a vampire now, and you can get there faster," Victoria stated, and Anna nodded stiffly,"Just remember, do not show your skin in the sun, and do not let anyone see your eyes. You have to save James, not get yourself caught by humans."
Victoria lead Anna as far as she would go, but Victoria didn't want to go all the way. She knew James would kill her the second he seen her, because she had turned his precious human mate. She had to save him though, and Anna was the only one who could. Victoria would always love James, even if he didn't love her, and she didn't want to see him die at the hands of the Cullens, so changing his mate was the only thing she could do to save him.
Victoria knew that she couldn't be the one to help Anna with her first human, so while running, she snatched a bear for the girl, to make sure she was as strong as she could possibly be to save James. The bear was only miles before Victoria stopped running, leaving Anna on her own.
Anna had to pretend to be human when she was in Phoenix, considering there were so many humans there. She was glad that she had a bandana in her back pocket, which was to tie the outfit together. She pulled the bandana out, and tied it so the lower half of her face and neck was covered, she then ran by and stole a pair of sunglasses from a woman that was eating nearby.
Once she felt like she was disguised enough, she stuffed her hands into her pockets, and began walking in a human pace — as best she could. Her vampire body was naturally trying to make her run faster. She was also having trouble not ripping the throat out of every human she passed, but she had to save James.
Anna was nearing the studio, and she was becoming more and more anxious. What was going to happen? How was Bella going to react to seeing her as a vampire? Would Bella already be dead by the time she got there? How would the Cullens react to seeing her? Would they blame themselves, or would they say 'I told you so'? Would they attack her? Would she be fast enough to save James? Would she be strong enough?
There were so many questions running through her mind, but the main ones were about James. Would he be upset that she was a vampire? Would he force her away from him because of it? Would he kill her? Would he be happy that she was a vampire and that she saved him? There were so many possibilities, but honestly, Anna was scared of every outcome, especially the ones that didn't have a good answer.
As she got closer to the studio, she was worried that the Cullens would sniff her out before she even made it inside. They would know that she was there, and stop her before she could save James. She had to save James, he was her mate. In her vampire mind, Bella didn't matter to her as much as saving James did. It was almost as though her mind was clouding the idea of Bella with all of the love and desire Anna had for James, as well as the need to protect him. She knew once she saved James, Bella and the Cullens would hate her, but she almost seemed to not care. The Cullens weren't her family, and Bella seemed keen on picking them over her own family, so Anna didn't see the problem.
Anna was right outside, and she could practically feel that her mate was in danger. This was a feeling she had never felt before, but she knew the feeling would make her even stronger. She could save him, she could protect him, and most of all, she could save herself along with him. With one silent sigh, she placed down her sunglasses and bandana on the railing near the door, before she grabbed the door handle and swung it open wide to let herself in...
