2nd of january, day of debut, 2016

the four girls sat in the car quietly, not daring to say a single word out of pure nervousness for their debut.

the driver had rolled down the partition, asking if they were okay and if they were being held against their will or something like that, but they'd all just shook their heads in unison.

he'd just shrugged it off, rosie's stomach doing flips in the backseat, jisoo's invalid hand on her thigh, tracing patterns on her soft exposed skin.

jennie had snuck a glance at the two, feeling incredibly jealous.

and not because she liked jisoo or rosie, but because she wanted what they had.

she swallowed the lump in her throat, staring past lisa out the window.

the blonde had noticed instantly, studying the brunette's face, the older girl's brows laced with worry.

lisa knew it was a long shot, but when you can feel your best friend's leg jittering beside you, and her irregular breathing, there's kind of nothing else you can do.

assuring herself it was okay, she tentatively placed a hand on jennie's knee, knowing the others couldn't see since her and jennie were in the very back of the car, with jisoo and rosie in front.

when the blonde's hand came into contact with jennie's soft skin, the brunette's breath had hitched in her throat, as lisa glanced up at her, with unsure eyes.

jennie had smiled softly, placing her hand on top of lisa's, squeezing softly.

"you'll be alright." the blonde whispered, rubbing her thumb on jennie's hand, tracing patterns.

the brunette scoffed quietly in response.

"i seriously doubt that." she replied delicately, lisa's brows furrowing in worry.

the late afternoon sun shone through the tinted window, casting a yellow glow onto lisa's face.

both the girls knew they always had a comfortable friendship, but ever since jennie had come home from christmas with newly dyed hair, there had been this tension.

typically it was broken with friendly banter, but there were some moments that made them doubt it was platonic.

practising the choreo for their debut had become something jennie wasn't sure if she should look forward to or dread.

she exhaled slowly, staring out the window at the cars whizzing by. lisa tracing the back of her hand had almost put her to sleep when the chauffeur had announced they had arrived.

the blonde sat fidgeting in her vanity seat, as numerous woman patted powders into her face and dip dyed her hair a bright yellow.

she looked up at the mirror and saw someone unrecognisable.

she swallowed the lump in her throat as she stared at the costume the stylists had planned for her to wear, hesitantly pulling it over her head in the change room, ignoring the nagging hunger in her stomach.

she exhaled slowly, walking out of the vanity room to join the others in the intermission room.

everything's alright, you're just not used to this, but you're made for it. that's what everyone tells you, so it must be true.

it must be true.

it has to be true.

she opened the door quietly, seeing rosie and jisoo all dressed up and ready, sitting on the couch as the younger girl leaned into jisoo's arms, who was calmly rubbing her back.
