The Time Me And Dooka met a Crazy capybara: book 5, part 8.

W/ Sgt. Rudo, Jace, Karis, Mya, Kennon & Julian.

Setting: in the army barrack, ready to start the day.

Jace's POV/1st Person:

I awkwardly stood to the side, watching as everyone had started to set up things and organize. Karis and Julian had stopped and talked about whatever they were talking about, As Mya and kennon started to help eachother out with organizing as it started to go slower since two of them had slowed down. "We're almost set, I think." Mya murmurs to kennon, Gaze looking down at all of the stuff we have. I've only been here with them a few days, so I honestly don't know what we have.. Hopefully its resourceful items and not a bunch of weird nonsense. I haven't been talking to people in the group besides Mya and Kennon, and maybe exchanging a few words with Julian but nothing major. And I don't think that Sgt. Rudo Likes me all that much... I wonder if he knows.. Never mind. But anyway, I have a secret. It may change anyone's perspective.. Maybe even Kennon's... Exactly why I haven't said anything yet. But... it's a major one. Enzo Is my father. See, we really don't have a good relationship with each other. Its kinda, well.. Really strained. Flashback, gray and grainy: "...Here's something for your back to school supplies." Enzo had said to jace, as he hands out something in a target bag, Now this was around the time she was 8 or 7, which was 10 years ago. So she wasn't expecting much then, and Enzo wasn't that... crazy? It's hard to put it.. But that's just a lack of a better term. Not that he deserves one anyway. So then Jace at least thought she'd have something cool but minor. Like a sequin pencil case or whatever kiddy think she liked back then. Turns out it was just one of their old, colored on pencil case from 2 school years ago. It wasn't that they didn't have the money, it was just they used it on more serious stuff, aka basic needs such as; Food, Shelter, water, electricity, etc. they thought fun stuff, including her mom, thought that the money in their household would only be put to serious needs... Present time. I mean, Like I said. I've never talked to the others besides Mya And Kennon, so I only really feel comfortable talking to them then. So I just walk over To the two. "Are you Seriously sure this is a good idea? We have everything we need here." Kennon says To Mya Who Only sighs in exhaustion.both of them seemed too busy to even notice me. "Yes. I'm Serious. Though we have everything we need here, it's semi-destroyed. It's not going to hold up for us much longer, it's deteriorating kennon. And we don't have to go far, unless you want. But it's a much better, wiser option to maintain and a far distance. Capybaras might migrate back here. We need to go, kennon. And we need to go now." Mya mumbles in frustration, as kennon seemed to have second thoughts about everything, not knowing whether to agree or go against. "Sgt. Rudo only wants what's best for us. I think he'll agree to leave here." Mya says and Kennon glances at me and gives a look; "Help Me out here, Jace.' his exasperated, pleading expression read. "...." I furrow my brow, as I went lost for words, not in a good way but maybe not in a bad way either. Losing Hope, he exhales in despair.

"Fine." Kennon seemed as if he didn't want to argue anymore, he nodded. "You agree to this. Right?" Mya was searching for a genuine response, he rubs the back of his neck as he didnt want to talk about this further. "Ugh, mmm.. Yes. There. Happy?" Kennon pouts and receives an annoyed eye roll in response. Mya, Looking rather pleased.. Did a subtle nod. "Yes. Now, we can carry on. It wasn't so hard, now was it?" Mya smirks then pats him. "There, good. Anyway, pack up, we should hurry." Mya says, and walks off, Only leaving Me and Kennon to ourselves. Kennon's head hangs low, looking sad and stressed out. "You okay?" I say, walking a bit closer to him as he looked more then just 'upset'. "You don't have to bottle it up, you know." I attempt to get him to open up, just a little. he doesn't budge, I scoff in mock offense. "Seriously, gonna ignore me like that?" Despite my sarcastic response, I couldn't help but feel a little hurt. "Kennon. Listen to me." I grab him to where he's facing me. "We're going to be okay." I stare right into his eyes, as he stares... his eyes filled and rushing with different emotions, though not good ones.. "You don't have to worry. We have each other. Mark my words... we're going to be okay. You have us. We have each other. Alright?" I'm not usually a comforting person, but I can tell that he really needs reassurance, even if it only turns out to help him a little bit, Or make him feel worse. Oh well, sounds rude for me to say 'oh well' to that.. But, Oh well. I know I nearly said or did say 'oh well' in my mind like 3 times... but as much as I felt bad for Kennon, I knew Mya was right. This army barrack isn't going to hold up much longer, and we need to get out so we can avoid the consequences of not moving fast enough. "I can't believe we're doing this.." Julian says to Karis as they zip up the duffel bag. "Are you sure your wound is okay? We don't want you walking far distances just yet if it's not fully healed or it feels like it isn't." Karis says, evident that she was nervous. Julian ponders for a moment then confidently nods, "mmm, Yeah! Yeah, I think so." Julian gives a toothy grin and a thumbs up, and Mya chuckles, rolling her eyes. "If you don't feel pain or too much pain, then we're set." Sgt. Rudo says, And Julian does double thumbs up at that. I turn my attention back to kennon who already gathered his belongings and practically sprinting towards the others. I smile, even the slightest bit. 'I guess this is my life now.' I think, then inhale and run after kennon to join the others on this rocky road ahead of us. Literally and figuratively.

To Be continued.
