The Incident: Book 6, Part 9.

W/ Chad, In the medical tent, waking up to a burning smell.

Chads' POV/1st person:

After a period of deep sleep, I woke up to a foul smell. I sniff deeply to make sure what I was smelling was actually it. Fire. My leg was still pretty stiff and sore, So As I tried to move, it seemed not to budge. I Sit upright, looking around. There was a lot of commotion outside the tent. I heard footsteps outside, and Someone entered the tent at full speed, grabbing me by the arm and bringing me to my feet, without doubt.. It was Julian. "What's going on?!" I Yell. He looked around then met my gaze once again. He seemed pretty out of breath. Did he run all the way here? "I dont know. That's what I'm thinking. But for some reason a fire has been set and it's getting out of control. And we have to get out of here. Fast." Julian says, As we already start to make our way out of the tent. My head is spinning with a lot of questions and emotions, and it doesn't help that if I asked him all of the questions(or at least attempt to), it would only come out as a big jumbled mess. Finally, I managed to gather my strength to ask him something. Moreso a confused demand than a question. "Well what about the others? We can't just leave them here.." I ask. Julian just stares at me for a couple of moments, Slightly flabbergasted. His expression read 'since when did you start caring about people?' but then soon enough, he shook off his shock before answering with a shrug. "I'm sure Mya and Liam Will have it under control soon enough." Julian responds nonchalantly, eerily chill. "What?! Are you out of your mind?! We can't 'leave it to them'. And SINCE WHEN MYA WAS HERE?!" I yell out in frustration. I can't believe him right now, seriously. Julian shakes his head and that's when I see it. The fire. My eyes widened. The only thought consuming my mind was 'what happened?' and 'what caused this?' this definitely wasn't good. Either way, we needed to act and think fast. "We don't have time to worry about anybody right now but us. Let's go."  Julian Says.  But I started to go the opposite direction anyway, back towards the camp. Julian sighs. "Why the change of heart?" Julian asks, giving me a weary and frustrated glance that held even a pinch of exhaustion. I scoff. "It's not a 'change of heart'. It's called having common decency and care, something you suddenly lack. They took us in and helped us out, even if it was for a short period of time. They set us back on our feet, and the least we can do is return the favor of rescuing the people in this community." I say. I was never one of 'good deeds', but it just felt wrong not to help them out when they needed it, given how they did when we needed the help. The explanation probably seemed to do the trick and change his perspective, with the way he just responded with a sigh and followed behind. I nod and we head back towards the community....

. . .

We soon came across a small tent that held a family of 4, surprisingly still in there, defenseless and afraid. Julian watches as grabs the parents and I grab the kids, and without word, we start to head out and search for people one by one. "I'll go left, you go right." I order, and Julian nods. I turn to the unknown family. "Get away as far as you can from here. It's not safe, at least for a while." I say, and the family didn't respond back to that, instead just doing what I said. I sigh, running a hand through my hair before splitting up and going to gather more people from the community and possibly get them to safety. I run down the dirt path, and I see a guy just standing around confused, Eating a bag of chips, relatively calm. I Shake my head, recognizing him immediately. "VICTOR! What Are you doing?!" I say, tone exasperated. Victor flinches and nearly drops the bag of chips and looks at me with wide eyes, before his shocked expression turns into a smug half-smirk. "Aye, what's up, Chico? I Haven't seen you in a while, yeah?" Victor gives me a rough handshake, mouth still full with chips. I scoff. "Are you serious? The community's on fire and all you're worried about is some CHIPS?" I say, ripping the bag of chips out of his hand to get his attention fixated on the more serious problem here. "¡Estúpido! I was eating that!" Victor snarls. I didn't care, I only dragged him by his hand and led him away. "Do you understand there's a fire going on right now? Worry about that, not your daily snack." I say, gathering more people with the help of victor(albeit very reluctantly)....

Soon enough ,around 30 minutes later, we had gathered pretty much everyone in the community. Julian and I Had met up again, and he had gotten the other half of the community. We Were thinking of plans about what to do. Until it hit me. Liam and Mya were still in there, somewhere, god knows where they were in the camp, but they could be in danger. Julian noticed my expression and he glanced at me. "What's wrong?" He asks. I sigh. "Mya and Liam are the only ones we couldn't find. I don't know where they are or if they escaped." I explained to him, and Julian's face went grim. "...You're right. But I'm sure they can take care of themselves. They've been carrying the weight of this community on their backs perfectly well, no? I'm sure they made it out." Julian pats my shoulder reassuringly. I shake off his hand. He didn't seem as hurt by my gesture as he would have been a couple days ago. "Sure." I say, as I sigh. Hoping that it was true.

W/ Liam.

In the slowly burning community.

Liams' Pov/1st person:

I kicked the can of gas to the side as I hid the lighter. This was my plan all along. To try and kill Mya and Her community. And it seemed like it was working, hopefully. Now I Have to play it cool, for now. Once I find her. I hope he'll be satisfied with this. And if this doesnt work the first time, I'll keep trying. This is going to be hilarious, after all of this. Seeing her face, the possible betrayal and hurt. Thinking we were actually close. But we all know this isn't far from the end. Not now, and not anytime soon. I thought to myself, 'you're not gonna be able to save yourself or the community for what's about to come.' With a sadistic smirk, I tuck my hidden pistol into my belt slot.
