The Incident: Book 6, Part 3.
Setting: Out in the Open, The clouds now a dark gray as they crowded together.
W/ Jace & Kennon, in search of shelter.
Kennon's POV/1st Person:
We've Been walking for a while now. Our group is split up and everything's a Mess, and I really don't know what we're gonna do. All I hope is that we all reunite, soon. And As fast as possible, Because I hate the thought of all of us being separated, and I may or may not have become entitled and spoiled to all of us being together and accompanying one another. A few drops of water splattered onto my face. "What?" My face scrunches up in confusion, And Jace looks at me, momentarily startled before she breaks into a teasing grin. "Never seen rain before?" She jabs, And I become flustered, feeling a little slow at first about how I didn't realize that before."oh, Right. Rain... I knew that." I say, trying to hide my vast embarrassment. She rolls her eyes and continues walking. "All Jokes aside, though." Jace starts, And I Glance at her. "We Should seek shelter soon. I'm assuming this isn't all of it. It's probably gonna start thundering, too." Jace says, and I immediately agree. "We can't afford to get wet or sick." Jace adds, and I Nod. I see a gas station up ahead, probably 10 feet ahead of us. "We Should head there." I gesture towards the short but wide building. She agrees.
...
It probably took like a couple minutes if not 10 to get there... I was hoping It didn't take longer but we were both equally tired after like.. Hours of walking. We go inside, the doors opening with the entrance bell ringing with a soft sound. The gas station was a mess, and It seemed like No one had been in here for months. We just looked around for a little bit. Jace had gotten a few things to stack up on, so I decided to just play around with her. I stride over to the register area, and lean on the counter, smirking and wiggling my brows. She walked right past me, either intentionally or not. "Hey." I grin, and she looks over at me. I glance at her and chuckle. "You Forgot to pay." I try to put on my best 'cashier' performance. She reluctantly played along. "How much?" She says, mock-exasperated. "A Kiss on the lips." I smirk. She laughs and turns away. "There's no way I'm doing that." Jace says, and I Dramatically put a Hand over my heart. "Wow, are you stealing?" I still keep up my 'cashier' facade. "God, Kennon.. You have the crappiest Acting Skills." Jace stifled a laugh. "I've Been Truly wounded, what will I ever do?" I say sarcastically.. I hop over the register area and walk over to her. "Anyway, What did ya get?" I try to see what she grabbed to stock up on. "None of your business." She responds sharply. I snatch her hat, and I teasingly hide it. "What'd you say?" I pull out the mischievous grin I always do. She grumbles.I put her hat on my head. "Hm... What do you think? Is it my style?" I say, jokingly striking some fabulous model poses. She giggles. I Continue my catwalk and strut along the imaginary red carpet, and do an amazing and very much extra twirl/spin at the end, but I end up losing my balance and fall to the ground with a dull thud. Now both of us are on the floor, laughing. A couple minutes past and now... it's not raining as hard as it was about 10-15 minutes ago. The both of us were sitting on the floor, just staring outside. There were a couple capybaras thundering past, snuffling and snorting aggressively as each thud shook the earth... or thats what it seemed like. I saw a smaller capybara... and it reminded me of daisy... when she was a pup. I sigh, and Jace caught on. "Hey. you okay?" She asks, worry written all over her face. I smile sadly, appreciating her concern. "Yeah... it's about something.. You wouldn't know about.." I sigh, head hung low. She furrows her brow, and she propped herself up on her elbows, away from where she was previously laying down and looking at the grim ceiling. "I'm sure I'll understand. I'm Alot better at understanding things... more than you give me credit for." Jace tries to reassure me, scooting closer towards my direction. I know you are, and that's what I appreciate the most about you. I thought to myself, but I only nod, expression solemn. She rests a hand on my shoulder, her eyes never leaving mine, tone and expression serious. "This Is Hard, I Know that. It's all so screwed up, It's like fate likes to mess with us 24/7 and we're the laughing stock in its eyes." Jace says, sighing. I can tell she truly cares... even if she doesn't like to show it as much as I want her to. "......." She went silent for a moment, almost like she was thinking about what to say next. "...And I'm gonna be honest with you." Her tone was now firmer than before. I look at her, defeat evident in my expression. I seem like a weak and stupid young boy who's getting a pep talk/a therapy session from a girl when it's supposed to be the other way around. It's because I'm Useless, and I always will be. "I'm not gonna say it's going to be okay.... Or some 'motivating words' that'll just be a load of bull later on." Jace continues. "But I Promise you this." She says, looking at me, expression serious. ".....We'll Get through this. Together." Jace says her words... in a swift and true manner. "This may sound very corny, but uh..." She sheepishly looks away for a second, before extending her pinky out. "I pinky promise you it." Jace says... and I reluctantly intertwine my pinky with hers. It lingers for a few seconds before we pull away. "For Now... just focus on resting." Jace says... and I nod in agreement. It was getting dark, and I was feeling pretty tired myself. "Now give me my hat back." Jace says, reaching for her hat that I even forgot that I had stolen from her as a joke earlier. I chuckle softly and roll my eyes jokingly before laying down. I closed my eyes, exhaling as I started to drift off to sleep. Maybe she was right after all.... As long as we have each other, even if it's just the two of us... we'll get through this together.
