your encounter with the man was replaying in your mind, since that day.
when you got away and walked inside your apartment, you checked if anything was missing from your bag.
surprisingly, everything was right there. even your wallet.
it took you two days to calm down your heart from the fear it faced. experiencing a close-to-death situation, again, surely made it to your year's highlights.
you sighed, as you adjusted the grocery bags in your hands. the walk back to your house turned out to be really tiring.
a nomu had appeared out of nowhere, and the number two pro heroes were doing everything to defeat it. you were thankful for them, but your arms and legs couldn't say the same.
you had to change your route, since the main road was closed— meaning you had to carry six grocery bags for more than half an hour til you reached your apartment complex.
you were halfway through, when you stopped to catch your breath. the commotion in the city was starting to worsen your headache, and you wanted nothing more than to reurn back home and take a nap.
"well, if it isn't a damsel in distress!"
your eyes shot open at the voice, immediately turning your head to the side.
"looks like you'd use some help"
in an instant, the extra weight that hung from your fingers was gone. red feathers carried your grocery bags, their owner landing next to you.
"aren't you supposed to be out there defeating that nomu...?"
"endeavor took care of it!"
"can't believe you don't appreciate my kind gesture" hawks added, sighing.
"no, i do! i'm really thankful for that, but..."
"carrying some random's groceries ain't really something the number two hero should be doing..." you continued.
"why not? my job is to help and save civilians! and you're a civilian who needed help"
a soft laugh left your lips, shaking your head softly. you couldn't possibly argue with him.
"thank you, hawks" you said, playfully rolling your eyes.
"no need to thank me for doing my job, doll"
your cheeks slightly flushed at the pet name, not expecting him —out of all people— to call you that.
throughout the walk to your house, he offered to carry your laptop bag, too; without taking no as an answer.
hawks was probably one of the few heroes you respected to the fullest. he wasn't only amazing at his job, but he was fun to be around, too.
you had a good amount of conversations with him, that went way back to his debut.
so, having a small talk with him while he made sure you and your groceries reached your house safely, wasn't something new.
"thank you, again! even if you told me i shouldn't say it"
"you'll never listen to me, will you?" he answered, a chuckle leaving his lips.
"probably not"
he looked at you with a small smile on his face. he rubbed the back of his neck, looking away for a second, a soft blush painting his cheeks.
"can i treat you to dinner one day?"
"that's not really professional of you, is it?"
"so? what about it?"
"i don't want to be the downfall of the number two pro hero!"
"you're kinda cruel, you know that, doll?"
you laughed softly, before looking at the pout on his face.
"i just don't want you to lose what you worked so hard for, hawks"
"keigo... please, call me keigo..." he whispered, walking closer to you.
"that's against the rules, isn't it?" you whispered back, looking up at him.
"don't worry your pretty little head with those, doll"
he took your hand in his, placing a kiss on the top of your palm. a pink hue colored your cheeks, your eyes meeting his golden-brown ones. he winked at you, before pulling away;
