"dollface, i'm gonna pay you a visit later, okay?"
"what for?"
"can't i just stop by to see you?" keigo asked from the other line.
"doing your job is more important"
"seeing you is more important to me"
"okay, fine. i'll see you later" you sighed.
"see y—"
"oh, wait!"
"yes? what is it?"
"what do you want for dinner? so i can go to the store and buy the ingredients"
"i want you to stay inside, because it's dangerous outside"
"as for the dinner, i can take care of it"
"oh, okay..."
you could hear a commotion from his end, and you knew you'd have to hang up.
"i'm sorry, doll... i have to go"
"duty calls, i know" you sighed.
"i'll be there before you know it, i promise" he said, making you laugh.
"stay safe, alright?"
"only because you say so"
"keigo!"
"i'm kidding, i'm kidding" he laughed.
"i'll see you soon, okay?" he added.
"see you"
you hang up the phone and ran a hand through your hair. since you didn't have to bother yourself with preparing the dinner, you had nothing else to do.
you walked into the living room, sitting on your couch. you reached for the tv's remote, pressing the on/off button. the news were full of updates about the country — damages, civilian complaints, villains that had gone berserk, and so many more.
it had been a little bit over a month since the paranormal liberation war, and the entire world was shook to the core by it and the chaos it brought.
yet, it had brought you and keigo closer. ever since he got injured, you took it upon yourself to take care of him· feeling guilty he nearly lost his everything because of you.
he never once blamed you, though. dabi's obsession and possession wasn't a fault of yours.
but every time you run your fingers through his crippled wings, and every time you saw the burn scar on the entirety of his back, the feeling of guilt was present in every single fiber of your being.
you blinked slowly, as you came back to reality. you looked back at the tv, before turning it off— not wanting to hear about the state of the country again.
you got up and made your way towards the balcony, sliding the glass door open. you found yourself leaning against the railings, looking at the city.
thankfully, the damages weren't a lot· since the war didn't happen close to your area.
of course, it was full of villains that broke out of prison and sought chaos and destruction, but they didn't leave the city in an awful state.
you could feel a pair of eyes watching you, making you immediately turn to the side. you looked around, but you found no one.
it wasn't long before your balcony door was opened, revealing keigo.
"oh, there you are!"
"i thought you couldn't come over for a couple more hours"
"i got bored so i left" he shrugged, walking to you.
"you said it was an important meeting!"
"nothing could ever be more important than you" he replied, putting a strand of hair behind your ear.
"you should focus on your job, keigo..."
"i'm trying to focus, but you're always on my mind. your situation is complicated, you know"
"the league knows where you live. they could barge in here any day and harm you" he added, caressing your cheek.
you leaned into his touch, closing your eyes and sighing softly.
"i'll be okay, keigo..."
"you can't promise me that"
you looked away, knowing you couldn't oppose whatever he said.
"we'll figure something out, yeah?" he said, lifting your head so you could look at him.
you smiled softly, before leaning closer to meet his lips in a quick kiss. your fingers reached to caress the scar on his face, slightly frowning.
"it's not your fault"
"i didn't say anything"
"you didn't have to. that face you're making says it all"
he rested his forehead against yours and closed his eyes, a sigh leaving his lips.
"i'm just glad it was me and not you" he whispered, making your heart ache.
"don't say that..."
you placed your hands on his cheeks, making him look at you.
"it's a miracle you survived... i don't know what it would've become of me if you didn't..."
"i promised i will always come back to you. even if i'm in pain and scarred... i'm not leaving you" he said, wiping the lone tear that rolled down your cheek.
you smiled and kissed his lips, taking him by surprise— even making his crippled wings twitch a little.
"what?" you asked, staring at his lovestruck expression.
"you never really initiated before"
"well, i'm not complaining! you shouldn't either, because you started it"
his lips met yours in pecks that had you giggle, before he turned them into passionate kisses that left you breathless.
little did you know, dabi was watching you from the sidelines with nothing but hatred in his eyes.
