it was just another tiring day at the office. you were working overtime to cover for one of your colleagues, and you really wish you weren't.
you had a really strong headache that didn't have any intention of going away with any pain killer.
when the clock hit nine, you were out of the building in an instant.
you thought you were going to collapse; your legs were growing heavier with every step you took, and you only wished to take a taxi. yet, every single one that passed by was unavailable.
your vision was getting more blurry by the second, and you still had a lot way to go til you reached your apartment complex.
it's been nearly a week since you started feeling this way. at first, you didn't pay any attention to it— you thought you were just tired. but more days passed and it only got worse.
you were feeling sick all day. yet, your temperature was always normal.
you walked towards a nearby tree, holding onto it— hoping your legs wouldn't give out. that would only be embarrassing for you.
"here she is! my favorite damsel in distress!"
"what happened today? high heels too tight for you?" hawks continued, as he landed next to you.
when he got no answer or sassy remark from you, he started growing concerned.
"what's wrong, dollface?"
he placed a hand under your chin, turning your head to the side so you could face him. your eyes were closed shut and your breath was coming out heavy.
he removed one of his gloves, before he placed a hand on your forehead.
"you're not burning up"
"i'm fucking freezing" you said, looking at him.
he picked you up bridal style, holding you tightly against him. you were surprised from how fast he was, to say the least.
"let me just take you to your house then" he said, softly smiling down at you.
not even one minute up in the air, and you were holding your stomach and mouth.
he put you down, holding your hair out of your face, as you vomited on the closest trash can. he eyed the faded marks on your neck, while he helped you sit down on a bench.
"stay right here! i'll be right back"
you watched him as he walked in a small convenience store, leaving you alone. he was quick to come back to your side, though; a bottle of water in hand.
he had his wings around you, as he took out a box from under his jacket.
"don't tell me you actually went and bought that" you said, staring at the packet of pregnancy tests.
"well, i hid it under my jacket"
"you stole it?" you asked, looking at him with wide eyes.
"of course not, doll! i paid for it! without the worker knowing i had it, though... you can say he was surprised by the extra tips i left him"
you grabbed the packet from his hands, shoving it in your bag.
"this is nonsense! i'm on the pill" you said through gritted teeth.
"do you take it everyday?"
"sometimes i forget"
he sighed, shaking his head in disbelief.
"let me just take you home, y/n"
"hope you don't mean flying me there"
"it's the fastest way! if i carry you and walk you home, your face is gonna be on the news front page tomorrow morning"
"and i don't think you want that" he added, as he opened the water bottle for you.
you drank some of it, as you tried to weigh the pros and cons in each situation.
"is it gonna take long?"
"not really. just two minutes if you don't complain about the speed"
"if you go too fast i'm gonna vomit! and i will, also, be cold"
in one swift movement, his jacket was resting on your shoulders. he lifted you in his arms again, and you immediately wrapped yours around his neck.
your eyes were closed shut, as you felt the air hit your face. even if it was warm and the jacket around your shoulders was, too· you still felt incredibly cold.
once your feet touched the ground, you were already kneeling at the front of your apartment complex— emptying your insides in a random discarded flower pot.
hawks was kneeling next to you, his one hand holding your hair while the other was placed on your shoulder.
"attagirl"
two of his feathers carried that pot to the nearest trash can, as he helped you to your feet. you unlocked the entrance door, before you gave him back his jacket.
"thank you... if it wasn't for your help, i'd still be there" you said, smiling softly.
"helping the prettiest damsel in distress will always be my top priority"
you supported your body against the door, holding onto the handle for dear life.
"are you sure you'll be okay on your own, now?"
"i'll be okay, don't worry! my boyfriend will come home soon, after all" you smiled.
"of course... your boyfriend!"
"also uh... thank you for the water and the... rest"
"no need to thank me, doll"
"if anything happens, you can call me! i'll be here to help you in an instant"
