It had been about two weeks since his conversation with Maddie and Buck had all of his things moved over to Eddie's house. The man had made it a point to go over and clear out his things while Maddie had been on shift, not wanting to cross paths with her as he was still mad at the woman.
Chimney tried to make it a point to get Buck to talk to his sister though. "She misses you Buck, at least answer the phone when she calls." He says, sitting next to the man on the couch in the loft, they were in between calls in the moment.
"Not until she apologizes, which she hasn't done yet." Buck shrugs not even glancing at the other man.
"She can't apologize if you don't answer the phone." Chimney points out.
"Chim, he's allowed to be mad. He'll talk to her on his own terms." Hen interjects from her spot at the table where she was playing a solo round of solitaire, listening in on the conversation the two men were having.
"Thank you, Hen." Buck gives her a small smile and leans back, sighing heavily. "Chim no offense, but please stay out of it. I've got every right to be upset with her, but I won't stay mad forever." He explains. "Thank you for having her back though." Buck was extremely grateful that there was someone else out there who had Maddie's back even when he was upset with her.
"Alright, I'll stay out of it. She just feels bad Buck." Chim adds, reaching over and patting Buck's shoulder gently.
Buck was grateful when the conversation ended, not wanting to talk about Maddie anymore. He was itching to forgive her, but he was going to stick it out a bit longer. Maybe his sister would finally reach out with an apology sooner rather than later. Eddie was even getting on his boyfriend's case about getting in touch with his sister, saying he didn't understand why he was so angry at her.
"How's that man of yours doing Buckaroo?" Hen calls out, making small talk. It had been a slow day, only having a handful of calls and they only had a couple of hours left of their shift. "Is he getting through the academy, okay?"
Buck perked up at the mention of his boyfriend. "He's doing good, the academy is beating his ass though. He comes home and almost passes out immediately." He chuckles, thinking back to the night before where Eddie had barely sat on the couch before he immediately started snoring. Buck had to wake him up and practically feed him dinner before getting the man to bed properly. Before he could say anything else, the bell rang signaling they had a call.
---
Eddie was at home getting dinner ready for Christopher and himself, making a mental note to put a plate in the fridge for Buck so he had something to eat when he came home after a shift. It wasn't anything spectacular he had just made spaghetti and had garlic toast in the oven. Spaghetti had been one of Chris' favorites lately and Eddie could make it without burning it. Once everything was finished, the man made two plates and set them down on the table. "Christopher, time for dinner!" He calls, smiling when he could hear the boy make his way down the hallway and into the kitchen.
"Starving." The boy mumbles and takes a seat, instantly digging into his plate of food.
Eddie was just about to start eating when his phone rang, frowning when he saw Maddie's name pop up on the caller ID. "Hey Maddie." He answers. He figured that she just wanted to talk to her brother, hoping that Eddie would help her out. "Buck's not here right now, he's on shift, and Chris and I are in the middle of dinner." He hoped Maddie would just call back later.
"Eddie, it's Buck." Maddie sniffles and Eddie could tell she was trying her hardest to keep it together on the other end of the phone. The man's heart sank as he waited for her to elaborate. "There was an accident, someone planted a bomb in the ladder truck and went it went off Buck got stuck under it, it crushed his leg."
Eddie felt like the wind got knocked out of him as he listened to Maddie's words, only a few of them registering in his brain. Accident, bomb and Buck got stuck under it. The man couldn't make any words as he scrambled to get away from the table, not wanting Christopher to hear anything as he set the phone on speaker and tried to wrack his brain on who to call to come sit with his son so he could be with Buck. "Eddie?" Maddie's voice was small.
"Yeah, I- I'm here. I'm trying to figure out what to do with Christopher. I can't just leave him home alone." The man almost snaps.
"Hen and Karen are already on their way, I'm on my way to the hospital. I'll see you there." She hung up before he could say anything else.
Eddie didn't know how Buck was doing, if he was even stable. He didn't know how long he had been standing there in his own thoughts when he heard a knock at the door before Hen and Karen walked inside, Hen immediately making her way over to Eddie who was sitting in the living room while Karen joined Christopher in the kitchen. When did he get to the living room? "Hen." Eddie breathes out. "How is he?" He could feel a wetness on his cheeks, he hadn't even noticed that he started crying.
"He's stable. We got him to the hospital, and they rushed him off to surgery." The woman starts, gesturing for Eddie to get up. She was going to take him to the hospital with her while Karen stayed with Christopher. "Karen's here with Christopher, you're coming with me."
"What about Denny?"
"He's over at Athena's, he was hanging out with Harry. Don't worry about it. Get your shoes on and go kiss your son so we can leave." Eddie stood up and made his way to the kitchen, letting Christopher know he had to leave and that'd he'd be back hopefully soon and to be good for Karen. He kisses the top of his head before rushing off with Hen.
"It's bad Eddie. He passed out multiple times from the pain before we could push meds." Hen explained to him as they drove off towards the hospital. Eddie didn't want to talk about it now, not when the bile kept rising in his throat at the thought of his boyfriend being hurt. Hen took Eddie's silence as a cue to stop talking about it, the rest of the ride to the hospital was silent.
The man nearly jumped out of the vehicle before it was fully stopped when they pulled up the hospital. running through the doors and immediately spotting Maddie in the waiting room with Chimney and Bobby. "How is it that Buck was the only one who got hurt?" He was seething, noticing that everyone else had seemed to come out unscathed.
"It was a freak accident, Eddie." Bobby spoke up, he seemed the most shaken up out of the group other than himself and Maddie.
"He's still in surgery." Maddie was talking now, Eddie had to sit down, everything was spinning. He felt sick knowing that Buck was hurt, and he couldn't do anything about it right now, he couldn't even be in the same room as him right now. "Haven't heard anything about how it's going though." She sniffles, wiping her eyes. Chimney was sat next to her, holding her hand. God did he wish he was holding his boyfriend's hand instead of sitting in the eerily quiet waiting room. He let himself break for the first time since he heard the news, letting tears stream down his cheeks and letting out a choked sob. He felt a pair of arms wrapping around him and holding him close, comforting him as he let himself cry while the love of his life was in an operating room.
