Eddie had wanted to tell everyone the good news all at once, but Buck had insisted on doing it his way, going to everyone's houses or inviting them over separately. The first people they had told were Maddie and Shannon. Maddie swearing that she wouldn't tell Chimney since they all knew he couldn't keep a secret to save his life. The two women were overjoyed, nearly jumping up and down over the news of the engagement, trying to demand that they both help with the wedding planning. Buck and Eddie had already decided beforehand that they would recruit the two to help them out.
Second, they called Eddie's parents even though he didn't want to, but Shannon and Buck had encouraged him, saying that it wouldn't be so bad. They were wrong. "You can't marry a man! It's wrong." His dad had said, which was more than his mother, she heard the news and acted like she hadn't heard it. "Marriage is meant for a man and woman, not man and man. It's disgusting and I won't have a son like that." And with that his dad had hung up. It didn't upset him as much as he thought it would, he had a feeling the conversation would go like that, so he had prepared himself for it ahead of time.
Third, they told Bobby and Athena who were pulling them into tight hugs. Bobby made them dinner that night to celebrate, a grin on his face when he saw how happy the two men seemed. They had deserved it.
Fourth was Hen and Chim. They told them while they had some down time during a shift. "We have something to tell you." Buck had grinned, gripping Eddie's hand tightly. Hen narrowed her eyes and gasped as she clocked the ring on Eddie's left ring finger. "You're engaged!" She exclaims and practically throws herself at the two, engulfing them into a hug. Chimney doing the same when Eddie had confirmed that yes, they were indeed getting married and that was what they had wanted to tell them.
Lastly was Buck's parents. He had called them, and they didn't answer. He left a voicemail, telling them about the engagement. Days later they called him back, yelling at him for telling them about the news over a voicemail. They weren't happy about the engagement, letting it be known that they would not be attending the wedding. Buck wasn't upset.
---
Tonight was a rare night that Eddie was at home while Buck was on shift. He had told Eddie that he was going to try to pick up any extra hours where he could so they could start saving money for the wedding.
He was sat on the couch, Christopher asleep with his head in his lap, a random movie playing in the background. Shannon was there as well, keeping Eddie company. "So, are you ever going to read the notebook?" She asks, gesturing to the spiral notebook sitting on the coffee table. Eddie had thought about it on several occasions but just never did, he wanted to wait until Buck wasn't home, so he wasn't hovering while the older man read.
"Yeah. Actually, I was thinking about reading it after Chris goes to bed." Eddie hums and gently cards his fingers through his sleeping son's hair, smiling to himself.
Shannon nodded and gave him a smile, standing up from her spot on the recliner. "I'll get out of your hair then. I'll see you next weekend when I come to pick Chris up." She says, gathering her purse and quietly leaving after whispering an 'I love you' to their son.
Eddie sits there for a few more moments before carefully shifting Christopher to his arms and standing up from the couch, carrying the sleeping boy to his bedroom and gently laying him down in his bed, kissing the top of his head as he tucked him in for the night. "Goodnight Chris, I love you." He whispers and quietly leaves the room, shutting the door behind him.
Walking back out to the living room, Eddie grabs the notebook off of the coffee table and walks back to the bedroom he shares with his fiancé and makes himself comfortable in their bed and cracks open the book. The first entry brings a tear or two to the man's eyes.
