Oh so wonderful.
***Madison***
Joseph ran and as I chased after him, the happy atmosphere died down to a sad and confusing atmosphere. He kept on running, running as fast as his legs could carry him.
He kept on running and ended up in the janitor's closet.
He had already closed the door behind him, but he could not lock it.
Stopping outside the door, I took deep breaths after deep breaths and knocked at the door after that, calling out his name.
"I'm coming in." I whispered.
Slowly, I opened the door, soft creaking emitted from the door as it opened. Joseph was sitting in there, sobbing, beside a dusty mop.
I've never really seen a guy cry before so this was new, but I think the real question is what happened back there?!
What the heck?!
Did he remember something that happened to him at the exact moment we were going to have lunch?
I don't know. All I know is that he's not doing so good.
I hope he'll tell me what's wrong....
With care, I sat beside him and nudged his shoulder. "What's the matter mate?"
"I don't want to talk about it. Leave me alone." He muttered under his breath, eyes glassy with tears.
"Whether you like it or not, you gotta tell me. I'm here to help you, not to laugh at you." I replied, my fingers intertwined with his, squeezing it reassuringly.
Eyes still glassy and hands squeezing back, it was obvious that he was thinking hard about his next move. The cogs in his brain twisting and turning, generating possibilities and ideas.
For a spilt second as I waited for his response, I could see the hope in his electric blue eyes. It burned with hope and faith...but alas, it died down like another normal fire.
It's bright hopeful flames burning out, fading into nothing but darkness and sadness.
"It's nothing....let's not talk about it." He finally said, hand fleeting away from mine.
Sighing, I ran my fingers through my hair and increased the distance between us.
Fine, I won't ask you anything since you don't want to talk about it.
Aren't we both going through tough times? Let me help you...don't push me away. So many people has done this to me...not you....
"Then what do you want to talk about?" I asked with yet another sigh.
He glanced at me for a second before averting his gaze back to the floor, "You. What happened to you? Why were you so sad earlier during paper hours?"
As fast as lightning, the heat reaches my cheeks and I hunch in embarrassment.
I don't think you should know Joseph, it's incredibly embarrassing if you found out it was about you.
"Oh it was nothing...it was...um...i-it was about...Sebastian. Yeah yeah, Sebastian. It's about him." I quickly say in response, pulling my hair behind my ear.
"Don't worry though, I'm over it now. It was nothing big really."
"Well you shouldn't be worried or shaken up by him at all, he's a prick and a douchebag. He isn't worth your time." Joseph replies, his voice taking an angry and defensive turn.
"Oh..o-okay." Cheeks burning bright red.
We sat in silence for a little while, enjoying one another's presence, staring into space.
"Sorry...for snapping at you earlier. I just..." he paused, biting his bottom lip, "didn't want to talk about it. It was...something really personal."
"It's okay...I...totally understand." I mumble, looking away.
From this angle, I could see the worry in Joseph's eyes as he notice my distant and sarcastic self. Creases forming on his forehead and his brows knitted as he thought of something.
"Well...what if I told you that...People were bullying me about...my love for books. What would you say about that? And also...about the world...or something." Joseph asks awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck.
"What exactly are you implying?"
"Um...ooh! I know. What if I told you that people were making fun of my glasses?" He said after a bit of thinking, staring at me intensely.
The atmosphere changing into a tense and serious one.
"Well..." I started, eyes looking upwards to the ceiling. "I say you don't spare them any glances when they tease you and make fun of you. In my opinion, your glasses are cool as heck. I mean, just look at those sexy and nice black frames." At this he laughed, taking off his glasses to wipe the tears.
"And it's not your problem. It's their problem. You're just caring about your eyes so you can see and experience all the wonders and things in the world. They just have to suck it up, cause they achieve nothing from making fun of you. But you on the other hand, you gain and achieve something."
"I'm sure you can figure that out." I finish, flashing a small and sincere smile.
"I...I..I suppose." He said in response, smiling slowly after.
Silence ensues between us, but relief washes over me. His smile could really light up my day. The best part was this was one of those rare and simple smiles that seemed to hold a deeper meaning and comfort.
It's all very confusing.
Whatever was the deeper meaning and reason behind that smile, it really brightens my day and I sure hope it stays on his pretty face.
It's just so wonderful.
Oh so wonderful.
