//CHAPTER 14.3

Purple

In a world of fleeting connections,

A stranger reached out a helping hand.

Rescuing another from the depths of despair,

An act of kindness, unexpected and grand.

.................................

(Also guys, if you don't remember what happened last time, just re-read the final part of last chapter.)

As Purple dragged the human into the vent, he wrapped his arms around their body, trying to keep them from wriggling free.

The human screamed and thrashed, however, preventing him from doing anything.

Purple released his hands from around their body and pressed his hand against their mouth, muffling their screams.

The human tried to pry his hands off, but slowly stopped screaming as they realized that he wasn't strangling them. Purple waited until they fully stopped before releasing them entirely.

The human, who Purple recognized as Orange's new friend, tried to open the door to the vent, but it was closed shut too tightly.

Purple waited in silence as they turned back around to look at him fearfully. It was possible that they recognized him, if they had been with Orange when Orange bit his arm.

Purple carefully grabbed the bag from off of their arms as they cowered in the corner of the vent, trembling with fear. As Purple opened up the bag, he saw a pink Lookie inside.

He blinked with surprise, not quite expecting a Lookie to be in the human's bag of all places. Purple slowly picked up the Lookie and set it on the cold ground next to him.

By now, the vent was beginning to get a little cramped.

The Lookie, recognizing Purple to be one of its own, nuzzled up against him with a contented purr. Purple stroked him absentmindedly as he continued to rummage through the human's bag.

With a sigh, Purple set the bag down. He hadn't found what he was looking for. The human didn't have the communicator on them, which meant that Orange probably had it.

Then he remembered the human, and realized that they may not have known that Purple was the one to give them the communicator while they weren't looking.

Purple sat backwards a little bit, trying to appear non-threatening. He waited until the human relaxed a little bit more before turning around and gesturing for them to follow him.

He began to crawl through the vent, occasionally turning back to glance at the human as they followed him.

Unfortunately, Purple wouldn't be able to communicate with them properly like he had hoped, but he truly did want to help.

After Orange had bitten Purple, Purple had wanted to do all that he could to make up for how he had acted. When Orange had asked him for help, Purple had done nothing. He didn't even try.

He had been doing nothing for a while now. Maybe it was time that he helped out.

That was why the vent-dweller was helping this human to escape. Purple had been watching the human and Orange for a bit, and it genuinely seemed like the human was a good person.

He wanted Orange to have this. He wanted to help Orange change things. If they worked together with this human, then maybe they could stand a chance.

But first, he had to get the human to safety, and then tell Orange about his plan.

It was a good thing Purple was very good at sneaking around.

Purple continued to lead the human through the vent. He noticed that the Lookie was also following him. Purple rolled his eyes as he realized that the Lookie might be sticking around for a little bit.

Eventually, Purple reached his destination, and peered around before carefully reaching out to open the small door.

The opening was currently just outside of OddWorld, opening up into the woods beyond. It was now bright outside, still early in the morning, the sun must have risen sometime after the human got onto the roller coaster ride.

As Purple crawled out, he reached a hand down to help the human up, trying to be nice.

However, the human only looked at him suspiciously before standing up by themselves.

Purple stood there awkwardly for a moment, both trying to act nonchalant and also get used to the cool breeze that was now blowing against him. He shivered a bit without even realizing it.

But the human did notice, and they hesitated a moment, seeming conflicted, before taking the bag off of their back and pulling something out of it.

They unfolded it, revealing a thick shirt with a hood attached. Purple stared at it curiously, tilting his head.

The human pressed it into his hands with a small smile. Purple froze, taken completely off guard. They were giving him this?

As the human began to step away, an upset look on their face, Purple turned to look at the soft piece of clothing in his hands.

He was beginning to see why Orange had saved this human. They really were nice.

Purple was glad he helped them.

Purple took a moment to slip it on, enjoying the dark, almost black color of the fabric. It reminded him a lot of his vent. He took the hood and threw it over his head, noticing how it seemed to cast a small shadow over his features.

This was absolutely perfect.

As Purple turned to look at the human, he noticed that they were standing a few paces away, staring at OddWorld, almost unmoving.

Purple slowly walked up next to them and glanced at their face. There were tears streaming down the sides. Purple was taken aback.

Why were they upset? Did he do something wrong? He only wanted to be a good friend.

Purple didn't do anything, just waiting for them to make the first move.

At first, he was confused, and then he realized that they probably missed Orange. Purple wasn't exactly sure what had happened to Orange, but he knew that he would have to find out if he wanted to talk to the smaller Rainbow Friend.

After a few minutes, the human turned to look at him. They seemed to be asking him, 'what now?'

Purple stared at the ground for a moment, suddenly very fearful of what the future would hold. But he knew one thing for sure.

Things needed to change. Purple knew he had to do something, and he knew he had to do it soon.

It was finally time to make some noise.

Purple-style.
