Hey guys! I'm back already, and super super excited to post this chapter!

We're officially on the last chapter before the epilogue. :0

Hope you've had enough time to mourn. :)

Anyways, here you go.

//CHAPTER 17.1

Orange

His laughter echoing in shared memories,

But now cast in shadow.

A silhouette of what once was,

Buried deep, like roots entwined in the soil of their lives.

Orange took a deep breath, trying to steady his claws as he took another step down the long winding staircase. He didn't know what awaited him and Elise, but he hoped that they could finish this quickly.

Just go in, turn off the power source, and get out.

Simple.

At least, that's what Orange told himself. Deep down he could feel that things may not come so easily to them. It hadn't been that way so far.

Orange still had doubts, even after all this time. What if his decision to lead his friends in this plan only led to them getting hurt?

If he failed, then all of this would have been for nothing.

As the two finally reached the bottom of the staircase, they entered a dark room. Orange couldn't see anything, so he reached towards the wall and felt for a lightswitch.

As Orange found it, he flicked it, and with a loud hum, some overhead lights turned on. They illuminated the space, allowing the two to look around.

Orange noticed that the walls were made of metal, and the room had tables running along the wall. There were multiple monitors on the wall, however they weren't turned on.

There was a door at the end of the room, and what seemed to be a row of file cabinets.

Orange passed the room without really looking at anything, as it didn't seem to have anything important inside. He looked at Elise through the corner of his eye, checking to make sure she was still following.

As he made sure that she was there, he reached out and grabbed the bar on the door, grunting as he tried to push the heavy door open.

However, it wouldn't budge.

That was when Elise stepped forwards and rolled her eyes gently. She nudged Orange to the side as she gripped the bar.

Orange looked up at her knowingly. He was stronger than her, so he knew it wouldn't open anyway, but if she wanted to try...

He was quickly humbled as she easily pulled the door outwards, instead of trying to push it in.

Orange could straight away feel himself heating up from slight embarrassment as she smiled smugly at him, walking through the door.

The next few rooms were the same as they walked past, filled to the brim with technology and cabinets and bright flashing lights.

Orange couldn't help but wonder how this was all under the facility, as it seemed like there was a vast amount of space dedicated to this underground lab. There were rooms with many directions to go, as some rooms had more than one door, forcing them to guess the right direction.
