As Minji walked down the hall to the room you were in, her heart began to sink a little deeper inside her chest.
Today is the big day!
Your big day, that is.
For Minji, however, it's the day she's been dreading.
You and Minji have been friends for years but until a few months ago, she thought there was something stronger and deeper between the two of you.
She thought there was this spark and connection between you that neither of you could put into words or feel with anyone else.
But she realized she couldn't be more wrong about that when she got the wedding invitation.
She cried a lot that day.
But she knows that she'll be crying even harder today when she watches you walk down that aisle with the love of your life; the love of your life that's not her.
She stood outside the door for a few seconds, trying to think of what to say and if she should confront you about her feelings before it was too late.
Eventually, she found the nerve to knock on the door and when you opened it a few seconds later, Minji was stunned by how breathtakingly beautiful you looked.
Your smile was so big and bright as you saw Minji standing there and she knew you were talking to her but she was too caught up in her thoughts as she took in the sight of you in the gorgeous white dress of your dreams.
"Minji?"
"Hm?" She spoke as she snapped out of her thoughts.
"I said that I'm so happy you could make it!"
"Me too." She quietly said. "You look beautiful."
"Thank you!" You said as you looked at your dress. "I wish you would've come dress shopping with me. I wanted you to."
"I know. I'm sorry, I had practice." She said.
It was a lie.
But what was she supposed to say?
That all she did was stay in bed as the girls tried to comfort her while she sobbed knowing that you were picking out dresses and taking another step closer to tying the knot to someone that's not her?
"It's about to start. How's my makeup?" You asked.
"Good." She replied and forced a smile. "Beautiful."
"Thanks." You said and stared at her for a moment.
Minji wanted to tell you everything.
The clock was ticking down, she only had so much time to tell you how she truly feels about you.
But the second she decided to just confess it all to you was the second when your parents came to your side.
"Oh, honey." Your mom said and Minji turned to look at her to find tears in her eyes. "You look stunning!"
"Look at my little girl. All grown up." Your dad said.
Minji hung her head for a second and blinked away her tears as her heart sank further and further.
"I'm going to take my seat. The girls are here too."
"Okay. See you soon." You said and Minji turned around, only for you to take her hand.
She turned to look at you again.
Was this it?
Were you about to tell her everything she had always hoped to hear you say?
Were you about to pull her away and tell her that you just wanted to get the hell out of here with her?
"Yes?" She spoke and her brown eyes sparkled with a look of hope inside them.
This was it.
This had to be it... right?
"Thank you for coming."
You gave her a quick hug and Minji's heart shattered right then and there.
She could barely hold her tears back when you pulled away.
"Let's go, honey! It's time." Your mom said.
Minji hurried off to the girls and took her seat as your dad prepared to walk you down the aisle.
She saw your fiancee at the altar.
Minji despised her because... that was supposed to be her.
A heavy breath left her lips as she sat down beside the girls.
"Have you told her?" Hanni asked.
"No. I'm not going to." Minji quietly said.
"Minji, if you don't do it now-" Hyein started to say, only for Minji to interrupt.
"It's too late."
The girls all tried to comfort her as the music started.
Minji couldn't look at your fiancee nor could she turn her head to look at you when everyone else in the room did as you walked down the aisle.
It was too painful for her.
When you were at the altar with your hands in your fiancee's, Minji was hoping with everything inside of her that you'd look over at her and tell your fiancee that you couldn't do this.
It wasn't meant to be.
But it was.
Minji knew that, even if she didn't want to admit it.
It was very obvious that you were going to marry this woman across from you as you both said your vows.
Yours were so beautiful and straight from the heart.
Minji couldn't help but think about what she would've vowed to you if it were her up there right now.
She wasn't sure exactly but she would vow to treat you like a princess, stay faithful to you always, and love you until the very end.
"Speak now or forever hold your peace." The preacher said as he looked all over.
But everyone stayed quiet.
Minji included, even as the girls looked at her and waited to see if she'd speak up.
"Okay then. By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you wife and wife. You may kiss your bride."
That was it.
It was over.
Minji's whole world was falling apart as yours was finally complete.
When you kissed your now wife, Minji got up and hurried out as the girls followed behind her.
But you were too busy sharing a kiss with your wife to notice anything else.
You're married now.
Any chance that Minji might've had is long gone.
Now it's too late.
