deanhuijsen Storia di un grande amore...

Without thinking twice, I followed Beatrice on Instagram and clicked like on that last picture, though I didn't know that she had a brother, I might have to ask Dean about this. We had travelled to Los Angeles and were about to wrap up our last training before our game against Milan. After that, me and a few other players had been selected to attend a sponsor's event - fortunately also Dean, so I could squeeze him out.

"Who's that guy on Beatrice's latest Insta post?" I asked him and he turned to me, grinning.
"Bro, you're whipped!" he chuckled.
"Who is he?" I asked again, not in the mood for his teasing. Of course I was whipped, I fell in love with her the moment I first saw her.
"No one really talks about it..." he mumbled and I was starting to lose my patience.
"Bro!" I snapped at him and he knew that I wasn't going to give up.

"Fine. He's her brother, he died two years ago" he simply replied.
"Oh... How?" I continued to ask, my curiosity getting ahead of me.
"That's none of your business" he snapped now and I groaned at how annoying he was being. And maybe, I saw this as a sign to stop pushing, I couldn't risk losing my best friend here.

Every day now, I looked forward to two things. Training and dinner. Dinner, because I would see her again. And that was why I was in my brightest mood when I walked into our food hall, reserved for the staff and team. My eyes immediately wandered to the top management's table and I sat down at the closest table to them, making sure to send Beatrice a sly wink when she noticed me. She just widened her eyes in annoyance and returned to eating, and so did I.

I had made an effort and sat down with the Italian guys to improve my language skills. Suddenly, the room turned quite silent and I heard some shuffling, everyone's eyes on one person only. I turned around too, to see a very tall man in a perfectly tailored suit making his way through the tables.
"That's John Elkann" Dean whispered into my ear and I gulped. That dude was tall and everyone could see that he not only had money, but also power. And an incredible aura. I was slowly starting to understand more and more what the deal with Beatrice and her family was about.

"Ciao stella" he greeted his niece when he arrived at the management's table and she stood up to hug and kiss him hello. My heart stopped when I heard his nickname for her. My Italian might not have been the best, but I knew that stella meant star. Just like my last name in Turkish. In my delusional, lovesick mind, I saw this as a sign.

Elkann went on to do his rounds, and since our table was the closest, he started with us. He knew most of them, including Dean.
"Dean! How are you?" he asked as they shook hands and hugged, they clearly knew each other well. No wonder, as he really seemed to be Beatrice's best friend.
"All good, excited to be here with the big guys" he chuckled.
"Well, you deserve it" Elkann encouraged him.

"This is Kenan Yildiz, unbelievable talent" Dean introduced me and I shot him a grateful smile for that compliment.
"Pleasure to meet you, Sir" I said as I shook hands with him, noticing Bea from the corner of my eye, as she followed the scene.
"Pleasure's all mine. I hope you're feeling well with the team?" he asked and I nodded, smiling.
"Yes, I really feel at home with them, I'm very grateful" I replied.

"Good, good. And how do you like living in Turin? Must be different than Germany" he chuckled and I was genuinely surprised at how caring he seemed to be - not necessarily for me personally, as he probably was with Dean - but for the well-being of his players. He even knew where I came from!
"It is, but I'm settling in. It's getting easier when you're not only falling in love with the city" I joked, but was actually dead serious.

Dean, who was standing behind Elkann, shot me a horrified look and made a sign of cutting his throat - shit, maybe that was too much. What if Beatrice had told him already about my comments. Fuck, fuck, fuck, why was I so stupid?! But Elkann laughed, which calmed me down a bit and I nervously chuckled too.
"Well, she's definitely a lucky girl then" he joked and patted my arm before moving on to greet the next table.

As soon as he was out of hearing distance, the boys at the table snorted out laughs and Dean just buried his head in his hands while shaking it.
"It was just a joke" I defended myself, I could have meant any girl, not just her.
"Fuck, bro. A crush... ok, but... telling her uncle - Our boss!" Cambiaso hissed and I shot him a glare.
"Why can't no one of you see more to her than just 'The niece of' and 'the board member'?! She's a human being too" I shot back.

"Because there are humans, like us, and then there's... them" Locatelli replied and nodded his head over to Elkann who was a few tables away by now.
"Dean is friends with her too" I justified myself.
"That's different" Dean himself snapped back.
"How?" I asked and crossed my arms.
"You're cocky, you're way too forward and on the contrary to you, I know my place" he explained and I shook my head.

"Look, I didn't say you'd be a bad choice for her, I... maybe I could even see it... but you need to slow down a bit, especially when it comes to her family. They're, like,... royalty" he continued and I just rolled my eyes before poking in my food again. I tried to turn a bit, as inauspiciously as possible, to look at Beatrice. Thankfully, she didn't seem to have caught on to our conversation, that would have been even more embarrassing than the whole situation was already.

Why was I the only one trying to see the girl underneath the surface? Sure, she was loved and respected, but there was so much more I wanted to give her. I knew what it meant to be normal and the freedoms I had had because of that - and I wanted to show her that, even with all her baggage she had, at the end, she was also allowed just to be a normal girl.
