We were playing Atleti tonight in the last league phase game of the Champions League and needed a win to secure our spot in the top eight, which meant a straight ticket to the round of 16. We didn't need two extra games in the knock-out phase play-offs, it was already crazy enough how many matches the guys had to play per season and they seemed to get more and more every year. From a financial perspective I had to admit that I liked it - more opponents, more publicity, more revenue. But for the players - absolute horror.

My number one priority after my election had been to instal the best medical team we could get together - and I let it cost us a pretty heavy sum, but in my opinion, it was worth it. We had a superb team of doctors and physios now who monitored every player closely. Personalised nutrition and gym plans for each of them were the new normal. Dean complained about it quite a lot, especially on date nights where we'd go to the most amazing Michelin-starred restaurants, but tough luck. I couldn't afford and simply didn't want to lose any player due to stupid injuries.

When I arrived in the VIP box, I greeted the people I knew friendly, until I saw who was going to sit next to me tonight.
"Thank God you're here, no one else of the family could really make it" I sighed as I kissed Pierre's, my godmother's husband's, cheeks.
"Bea told me about your authoritative intervention with the boys and I wasn't going to miss them playing with their tails between their legs tonight" he chuckled and I rolled my eyes.

And indeed, when the players ran out onto the pitch to warm up, I saw that Cambiaso and Fagioli were doing rondos with Kenan and Ferran Torres. Dean and Miretti were in a group with our Brazilian players and that was fine. It was already obvious enough that Andrea and Nicolo had gotten stuck in that group, we didn't need to come across as pathetic in tomorrow's newspaper.
"Well, it's working" Pierre chuckled as he saw me attentively watching every players' moves.
"I don't fucking care about their childish games, I just want them to win. We don't have a Ronaldo to save our ass today" I growled, remembering the 2019 round of 16.
"No, but we have Kenaaaan" Pierre swooned, making me roll my eyes again.

89th minute and the score was still locked in at 0-0. The referee's assistant on the sideline held up his board with a red "3" on it, and I nervously rubbed my hands on my trousers - come on, do something. Our goalkeeper passed the ball to Dean in the build-up, who somehow managed to run deep and cross the ball over to Kenan who was on the wing, but on the opposite side of the pitch. His first touch was class, immediately controlling the ball before delivering it straight into the net from just outside the penalty area.
