It was February 14th, a day usually filled with hearts, chocolates, and all things love, but not for Y/N. She had been anticipating the day all week—waiting for the sweet gesture, the thoughtful words, or maybe even a surprise. After all, her boyfriend, Soap MacTavish, was a man of action and had always known how to make her feel special. But today was different.

She sat in the common room of the base, slouched in one of the worn-out chairs, arms crossed, and a scowl on her face. Her gaze shifted from the clock on the wall to the door, and then back to her phone screen, which had yet to receive a single message from Soap.

Roach, ever the lighthearted one, had been cracking jokes with the others, trying to lighten the mood. But no matter how hard he tried, Y/N couldn't bring herself to laugh. She wasn't mad at Roach—he was just trying to be his usual self—but nothing could shift her growing frustration.

How could he forget? she thought, her mind racing. He always knows these things. He knows me.

And yet, there she was, sulking on Valentine's Day, feeling completely unnoticed.

It was already well into the evening, and the rest of the team had been chatting, but it seemed like Soap was too caught up in his own world to pay attention. No flowers. No chocolates. No sweet little text or even a casual mention of the day. Her eyes narrowed as she stared at the door, hoping for some sign, some action.

Just as she was about to storm out of the room, the door swung open, and there he was—Soap, with his signature grin plastered across his face. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him, and immediately made his way over to Y/N.

"Hey, babe," he greeted, leaning in for a kiss.

Y/N stood up abruptly, her chair scraping against the floor, and without saying a word, she turned on her heel and marched out of the room, leaving Soap standing there, completely stunned.

The entire room fell silent. Soap blinked, looking from the door Y/N had just left through to his teammates, confusion written all over his face.

"What just happened?" Soap asked, his voice low but full of genuine bewilderment.

Roach opened his mouth, but it was Ghost, sitting in the corner with his customary mask on, that broke the silence. Without even glancing up from his book, Ghost muttered, "You forgot what day it is, Johnny."

Soap's eyes widened, and the realization hit him like a ton of bricks.

Valentine's Day. He had completely forgotten.

A rush of panic surged through him. He had been so caught up in the chaos of work and missions that it slipped his mind—completely. And now, Y/N was upset. She probably felt unappreciated, and worse, she was hurt.

Soap turned on his heel and dashed toward the door. "I have to fix this. I'll be right back!"

Roach couldn't help but chuckle, even though he could see how frantic Soap was. "Good luck, Johnny. You're gonna need it."

Ghost, ever the stoic, merely nodded to Soap. "Don't screw it up, mate."

Soap didn't waste any more time. He ran through the halls, barely stopping to acknowledge the other soldiers who greeted him with confused stares. When he reached Y/N's quarters, he knocked three times, then hesitated before he pushed the door open.

Inside, Y/N was sitting on the edge of the bed, her face buried in her hands. She wasn't crying, but it was clear that the disappointment was weighing on her.

"Y/N," Soap started, his voice a mix of apology and panic. "I—I messed up."

Y/N didn't lift her head. "Yeah, you did. It's fine," she said flatly.

"No, it's not," Soap replied, stepping closer. "I should've remembered. I should've done something. I—" He fumbled with the words, his usual charm and confidence nowhere to be found. "I'm really sorry. I don't deserve you."

Y/N finally looked up at him, her eyes softening a little, but still holding that hurt. "Johnny, I don't need flowers or big gestures. I just needed to feel like you remembered me, like you cared about today."

"I do care," he said quickly, kneeling down in front of her. "You mean the world to me. I'm an idiot, and I don't know what I was thinking. But I swear, I'll make it up to you. Just... just give me a chance."

Y/N sighed, wiping a tear away. She couldn't stay mad at him, not when he looked so genuinely distressed.

"Alright, you get one chance," she said, her lips curving into a small smile.

Soap let out a relieved laugh and stood up, pulling her into a warm hug. "I'll make it the best Valentine's Day ever, I promise."

Y/N pulled back, raising an eyebrow. "You better."

"I'll even let you pick the movie tonight," he added with a grin.

Y/N smirked. "Well, if you insist."

As the two of them sat down, Soap pulling out some snacks from the drwaer next to her bed, it was clear that despite the rocky start, they'd make the most of the night. Maybe it wasn't the perfect Valentine's Day, but for Y/N, as long as Soap was by her side, that was enough.

And Soap? He was just relieved he hadn't screwed up for good.
